Deep within the Deathgorge lie the hatcheries of the Rimewyrms, descendants of the godbeast Fangathrak. They exist in a state of constant frostbitten misery, freezing to death even as their divine constitutions keep them alive, and viciously preying on any who descend into their lairs… And plenty do, for treasure and glory await in that boreal abyss.
These deep reaches are the Wintermaw, the setting of the next season of Warhammer Underworlds.
A shard of the Everwinter lies within the Deathgorge, threatening to transform Ghur itself into a frozen wasteland. To surmount this nexus of frigid power, warbands must battle the biting cold, ferocious denizens, and a primordial, parasitic entity that slumbers in the ice...
Many foolish adventurers have found themselves at the mercy of a hungry rimewyrm, and their frozen corpses, still clutching ill-gotten relics, litter the caverns. Those treasures make tempting targets for warbands, and the treacherous caverns and rimewyrm hatcheries are the perfect stage for the tactical tussles of Warhammer Underworlds.
The new box contains absolutely everything a new player needs to get started with Warhammer Underworlds, and provides exciting new warbands and cards for current players. Two new warbands and four new Rivals decks are included, intended to be played out of the box with no fuss, alongside two new boards, plus a rulebook, dice, and tokens. But just who is unhinged enough to brave these wyrm-infested depths?
The Brethren of the Bolt are a fanatical sect of the Cults Unberogen who worship Sigmar in his aspect as the master of Azyr’s divine lightning. Each felt the undeniable call to holy action when struck by a bolt of lightning or scorched by the energy of a departing Stormcast Eternal.
Even the other Cults Unberogen steer clear of these lightning-addled zealots, but they cannot deny the effectiveness of their electrically fueled fervour. They are led into the Wintermaw by Pater Filius, who rides into battle atop his son's charred and bandaged shoulders, galvanising his followers with crackling arcs of electricity.
Facing off against these zealots is an equally cracked cadre of court banqueteers, who range far and wide to find the most succulent delicacies for a royal feast. The obsessive ambitions of The Skinnerkin even keep them from taking more than a delicate nibble of those they butcher with rusting meat hooks and chipped cleavers – after all, such perfect cuts must be conserved for the tables at New Summercourt.
Gristla Tenderhooke commands this particular group of slaughtermen. A harsh taskmaster, she demands her followers secure only the finest morsels – and what better source than the exotic corpses preserved by the ice of the Wintermaw, or the muscular warriors brave enough to weather its depths?
Each warband has its own Rivals deck, which you can open, shuffle, and play games of Warhammer Underworlds with right out of the box. There are two more universal Rivals decks that can be used with the warbands in the box – or any others. Rimewyrm’s Bite lets your warband lead their enemies into the hungry jaws of the native rimewyrms, while Hungering Parasite has your fighters succumb to the powerful parasitic organism known to some as the Bane of Heroes.
We’ll be taking a closer look at these warbands and decks in the future, but for now, brush off the frost and return to the AdeptiCon hub to check out the rest of today’s reveals.
