The cohorts of the Solar Auxilia are accompanied into battle by vast companies of tanks, but they also operate a range of mechanised walkers known as sentinels.
The Aethon Heavy Sentinel has already lumbered out onto the battlefields of the Age of Darkness, showering armies everywhere with explosive missile volleys, and now the Hermes Light Sentinel will join it, with pre-orders opening shortly.
A fast-moving scouting unit armed with potent weaponry, the Hermes Light Sentinel is a swift walker that lets the Solar Auxilia pilot feel the wind whipping at their hermetically sealed suits. Not suited for digging in for the long fight, squadrons of these smaller sentinels will engage in hit-and-run manoeuvres, softening up their enemies ahead of the arrival of the main force.
Hermes Light Sentinels are exceptionally nimble and extremely hard to target. When they run, they gain Shrouded (5+), which lasts until the start of their controlling player’s next turn.
Some Cohorts deploy the more heavily armoured Incursus-pattern Hermes Sentinels in more aggressive formations. Slightly slower and with a 3+ Armour Save, these robust walkers are armed with volkite calivers and heavy flamers, powerful anti-infantry weaponry that suit the shock-and-awe warfare of the Veletaris Storm Sections.
You get two Hermes Sentinels in a box, and a squadron of Hermes Light Sentinels can contain up to six, each armed with either multi-lasers or Hermes grenade launchers. Veletaris Squadrons can be fitted with either volkite calivers or heavy flamers.
The profiles for both variants of the Hermes Light Sentinel are in Horus Heresy: Campaigns of The Age of Darkness – The Battle for Beta-Garmon alongside the rules for the heftier Aethon variant, but with the impending pre-order of these mechanised sprinters, we’re making the rules free to download here.
