The new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar is just around the corner, with pre-orders available from this Saturday and an all-new app on the horizon.
As people prepare their armies for battle for a whole new rule set, it’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to the venerable Warscroll Builder.
This online tool was the brainchild of web designer and Warhammer enthusiast Tony Pacheco, way back in the first edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
Tony originally created Warscroll Builder to help his local gaming community, but it soon became popular with fans around the world. We were so impressed by it, that we partnered up with Tony and gave the roster builder an official home here on Warhammer Community in 2017.
But after seven years, and with big changes to army construction coming in the new edition, Tony has decided not to keep updating the program, and plans to move on to new things. This means that the Warscroll Builder will be removed in the coming weeks as the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar launches.
We caught up with Tony to reminisce over the glorious history of Warscroll Builder, and here’s what he had to say:
Tony: “The first release of Warhammer Age of Sigmar was a really community-driven event, because without points for the units everyone was coming together to work out how they could fairly play against each other. So I started working on a tool that would help me and my friends who were doing complicated points calculations, so we could start playing quicker, and it really took off.
“I still remember when Warhammer Community got in touch and wanted to collaborate – they’d loved the work I’d done, and as a result we got Warscroll Builder up on the website for everyone to use. Everyone was really helpful in getting it all working, and the feedback from the community with bug reports and feature suggestions made the tool what it is after all these years.
“I’m sad to stop developing it, it’s really my baby and I’ve been working on it for so long, but life has a way of just adding new stuff onto your plate all the time and I don’t have the bandwidth to continue developing it anymore. It’s been harder over these last couple of years already, and this seemed like the right time to step away.
“But everyone has been awesome, it’s been much more significant than I expected it would ever be, and I’m really proud of what it’s become. Going to tournaments and seeing people with Warscroll Builder printouts is amazing, and I feel really great about how the tool has helped the community.
“From the very beginning this has been a great partnership, and I have nothing but great things to say about Games Workshop and the teams I worked with. The Warhammer community at large is awesome, and with their support, they really helped me continue to improve Warscroll Builder over the years. I'm very thankful to everyone who has helped keep this project going for almost a decade!”
We’re sure many hobbyists will want to join us in thanking him for all his hard work and dedication, and wish him all the best for the future. Cheers, Tony!
This doesn’t mean you’ll be without a handy way of creating your army lists— there’s an all-new Warhammer Age of Sigmar app launching very soon. We’ll have all the details on this tomorrow here on Warhammer Community. Stay tuned!
