Win 33 Black Library Books with Warhammer+ this Week

The worlds of Warhammer are vast and awe-inspiring, packed with tales of heroism, fearsome villains, grand conspiracies, and endless war. All of these threads weave together to create a tapestry of stories that set Warhammer apart from everything else.

To celebrate all this awesomeness, Black Library and Warhammer+ have teamed up to give three lucky subscribers the chance to win one of each book in the core novel range – that’s 33 paperbacks up for grabs. All you need to do is be signed up to Warhammer+ by the 14th of August. If you’re already subscribed, then you’re already entered – though terms and conditions apply.

This week’s episode of Citadel Colour Masterclass is all about object source lighting (OSL). Here’s Ed with a few words on what you can expect to see:

“We’ve looked at a few different kinds of OSL before but I really wanted to explore how we can add dramatic lighting to skin and faces, as this is a great way of painting really striking characters in power armour. We often see this in iconic artwork from the Horus Heresy, like the incredible duel between Horus and the Emperor by Adrian Smith.

“This can be translated directly to miniatures quite easily just by painting the whole recessed head in the colour of the light source, but it gets a little harder when we want to make the effect more subtle. For example, the Azrakh the Annihilator scheme has a much less over the top and in-your-face finish.

“We’re going to strike a balance by painting a very strong finish but also look at how we can build the skin tones out of the lighting effect. This makes it look like our subject is both bathed in a glow from their armour, as well as from an external light source which is still strong enough to influence the top of our miniature’s head.”

While you’re pondering the painting possibilities with these new skills, this week’s Loremasters returns to the State of the Realms series with an episode all about Ghyran, the Jade Realm.

This crucible of life is the domain of Alarielle the Everqueen, and the location of the Seeds of Hope – the Living City, Phoenicium*, and Greywater Fastness – some of the earliest Cities of Sigmar founded in the wake of the Age of Chaos.
