The Emperor’s Children Army Set – Examining the new kits in detail

We’ve talked a lot this week about the rules you get in the Champions of Slaanesh Army Set, which you’ll be able to pre-order tomorrow, but we haven’t dug into the miniatures – until now. We’re fixing that with a deep dive into the kits included in this upcoming set, and all the extra bits and bobs you can use to make yours singularly exceptional.

Lord Exultant

The Lord Exultant is the preener-in-chief to lead your new warband, and he comes with quite a few options. His debut showed off three configurations that can be mixed and matched however you like, while the power sword and screamer pistol attach to two different left arms so you can choose to have his weapons raised or held at ease. He also has two head options.

Noise Marines

You get a hefty complement of 12 Noise Marines, with fresh new power stances taking up those 40mm bases, and each squad of six comes with enough interchangeable parts to make the entire dozen unique. The sonic blasters can be finished with any of six barrels – all of which are different – and then attached to any torso, while a total of nine helmeted and five unhelmeted heads make each miniature distinct.

Each Noise Marine comes with a pair of classically Chaos-styled shoulder pads – half of which contain eerie distorted faces. You can also give them a splash of the classic Emperor’s Children look with a left shoulder pad emblazoned with their old legionary icon, for true veterans of the Long War.*

Finally, the Disharmonist squad leader has three head options and two different looks for both his sword and pistol, while one in every three Noise Marines can have their sonic blaster replaced with a heavier Blastmaster.

 Infractors and Tormentors

It doesn’t stop with the rank-and-file Infractors and Tormentors either. The 20 you get in the box can be assembled as either squad type – boltguns supplemented by meltaguns and plasma guns for the Tormentors, bolt pistols and dueling sabres for the Infractors – split across four groupings of five main body poses. Each lot of 10 can pick from 12 helmeted and eight unhelmeted heads, and you even get to add topknots** to six for a real splash of Slaaneshi flavour.

These miniatures have been designed to look sleeker and more mobile than their Space Marine contemporaries, and like the Noise Marines they have a full complement of Emperor’s Children-styled shoulder pads for those who never splintered off from the Legion. You can accessorise with a set of fashionable pouches, grenades and stim injectors no doubt full of salubrious substances. The squad leader – an Obsessionist – gets to pick between a bolt pistol, plasma pistol and melee weapon, but don’t try to convince us that you’d take the sword over that obscenely violent-looking whip – we know what you Slaanesh types are like.

With so many options to choose from, it’s no exaggeration to say that you can make all 33 of the miniatures in the Champions of Slaanesh Army Set unique. Then, once you’ve assembled a force bristling with personality, you can paint them in all kinds of lurid colours before decorating them with decals from the transfer sheet which contains 150 transfers in black, gold, and eye-searing pink.

These kits are destined to bring out the best in hobbyists, so don’t delay in showing us your progress on social media. We really do want to see what you get up to, so make sure you pre-order the Army Set tomorrow!
