The new edition of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game is in full swing: armies of Rohirrim, Orcs, Elves, Goblins and more are being mustered and hitting the tabletop. The last update featured the first designers’ commentary for Matched Play, so this time the focus shifts to Narrative Play with some new scenarios.
Narrative Scenarios are the lifeblood of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game, allowing players to recreate the iconic scenes from the films and the books with their collection of miniatures. Picking your favourite scenes, collecting the relative forces, and playing through the battles is a great way to feel part of the story – either trying to faithfully recreate the events, or change the course of history.
Over the next few months, we will be providing a series of Narrative Scenario PDFs so you can play through some of the most iconic events in Middle-earth’s rich history. Each PDF will focus on a different film and contain a selection of scenarios; and this week we start where it all began – The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring™.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring™
Within this PDF you will find three Narrative Scenarios to play through, capturing some of the most exciting scenes from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Play through the skirmish atop the ruins of Weathertop as Frodo and his companions try desperately to fend off the terrifying Nazgûl, take control of the Fellowship within the walls of Balin’s Tomb, or recreate the tragic events at Amon Hen where the Fellowship finally breaks and goes their separate ways in their quest to destroy the One Ring.
Each Narrative Scenario lists all the participants you will need to play through these iconic scenes from the movie, gives guidance on how to lay out your board, and provides a slew of special rules to adapt the gameplay and help make the battle feel just like the scenes you see on screen.
Will you join the Fellowship on their noble quest, or side with the forces of darkness and seek to slay the Ringbearer?
