Last week was huge for Aeldari reveals – including the giant new Avatar – but none was as unexpected as the arrival of Corsairs in War Zone Nachmund. While they’ve been a part of Warhammer 40,000 since the very beginning, they’ve not often been major players. That’s all changing with the upcoming Kill Team: Nachmund boxed set, which brings the first-ever plastic Corsairs.
But what drives the Aeldari to abandon their regimented lifestyle and hoist the Jolly Roger? There are as many reasons as there are Corsairs, but all share a common desire – to be free from the confines of their old lives.
While many Corsairs hail from the craftworlds, there are also displaced denizens of Commorragh, former Harlequins and wantaway Exodites. This vibrant mix of cultures makes every Corsair fleet a bubbling cauldron of character, highly individualistic and determined to live life by no code but their own.
Although driven by the allure of an adventurous life, few Corsairs stoop to the hedonistic excesses of their Drukhari kin. A life shackled to depravity is just as confining as the rigid Paths of the craftworlds. And yet the Dark Prince hungers for Corsair souls as much as any other Aeldari. It’s the duty of psychically gifted Way Seekers to guide fallen Corsairs into waystones, where their souls can rest in safety.
A typical Corsair, if such a thing exists, is armed with whatever they’ve managed to loot, supplemented by the trappings of their former life. The Voidscarred are the Corsair elite, bringing a variety of skills to raids and covert operations, and mixing Asuryani and Drukhari influences.
Prince Yriel, High Admiral of the Eldritch Raiders and Autarch of Craftworld Iyanden, is perhaps the most famous Corsair captain. The stories of his return to his doomed birthplace, breaking the back of a lethal Tyranid invasion, capture the imagination of new generations of Aeldari adventurers.
The Voidscarred make their debut in Kill Team: Nachmund, but full rules for including Corsairs in your Warhammer 40,000 armies are coming in Codex: Aeldari, and Yriel is returning to lead them.
If you’ve not yet got to grips with the latest edition of this incredible game of covert ops, the Kill Team Starter Set contains everything you need to fight cinematic skirmish battles from the get-go. It’s packed with models, terrain, and all the accessories you can shake a shuriken catapult at. Pick up a copy and you’ll be ready to embrace the pirate code when Kill Team: Nachmund is released.
