Earlier this week, we looked at the new Warcry boxed set. We know you’ve been pine-ing for a look around the Gnarlwood, the setting for the second edition of this fast-paced skirmish game. Well, just fir yew we’re offering up a guide to this sentient forest. Plant yourself down and learn more about it.
You already know Ghur is dangerous – this is a Realm so violent that it’s actually eating itself! But if you’ve not been down into the Gnarlwood, you’ve not seen anything yet. Trees usually have a bark that’s worse than their bite, but gnarloaks will bark at you AND bite you. These gore-swollen shrubs can even uproot themselves to ensnare unwary travellers in talon-like branches.
The Gnarlwood lies in western Thondia, the prime landmass of the Ghurish Heartlands. It’s a region known for its primordial landscapes, voracious predators, and suspiciously low rental prices.
Everything in the Gnarlwood hungers for flesh. Those who manage to escape the attentions of the gnarloaks find themselves assailed by less floral predators – from fist-sized bloodwasps and six-legged hunting cats to giant reptilian monstrosities that can swallow a rhinox whole. Only the very brave or the very foolish will dare enter this forest of horrors.
Fortunately, there’s no shortage of brave and foolish warbands in Warcry, so enter it you will! The scenery in Warcry: Heart of Ghur lets you create your own Gnarlwood on the tabletop… and you won’t want your warbands to be getting too close to some of those fang-fingered trees.
This is just the start of our journey into the Gnarlwood. We’ll be taking a closer look at the new scenery later in the week, so sign up for our newsletter to get the latest updates on the new edition of Warcry sent directly to your inbox.
