The Leagues of Votann are finally ready to emerge from their isolation in the galactic core, and we’ve got another sneak peek at some of their rules. From the humble Hearthkyn Warrior to the highest echelons of Kinhost command, today we’re looking at their Stratagems.*
The Ancestor Cores known as the Votann provide the Kin with knowledge gleaned from countless generations, back to the very birth of their race. Within each Votann’s quantum infocores lie the accumulated wisdom of military tactics and battlefield theory from every war the Leagues have ever fought, forearming the Kin with a strategic oversight that is all but unrivalled – as well as some pretty tasty guns.
With such a wealth of knowledge at their disposal, you’ll be unsurprised to find that the Leagues of Votann have a Stratagem for almost every battlefield occasion…
The Kin may be born from cloneskeins, but they maintain tight bonds of Familial Loyalty – which allow you to launch a sudden counterattack by performing a Heroic Intervention with one of your INFANTRY or BIKER units. Your opponent will have to stay on their toes, or risk inadvertently charging into a carefully laid trap.
If hover-trikes are your jam (and let’s be honest, why wouldn’t they be?), you can ensure they stay in play for as long as possible by calling on the expertise of your Mag-Riders.
Anything that takes the edge off incoming fire is always welcome, but the potential to shut down any re-rolls to hit is especially helpful – keep your hovering Hernkyn Pioneers even safer by Advancing from cover to cover at high speed.
The Leagues of Votann are renowned for their efficiency, and the next two Stratagems are perfect examples.
When faced with hordes of enemies – such as the Orks and Tyranids that love to inhabit perfectly good mineral-rich asteroids – your Kin can thin the herd with an Optimised Volley, potentially tripling their damage output! That’s especially spicy when paired with a band of Brôkhyr Thunderkyn toting hefty bolt cannons.
This Stratagem exemplifies the philosophy of the Kin – Luck Has. Need Keeps. Toil Earns. Keep that in mind for matched play, as your CORE INFANTRY fight to the last to hold their hard-won objectives, your exo-armoured Einhyr Hearthguard shrugging off the terrifying tricks of Reivers or Death Jesters to doggedly complete their assigned action so long as even one of their number still draws breath. When applied to a unit with Objective Secured, this ploy can be an absolute game-winner.
