If you checked out last week’s Sunday Preview, you’ll know that from Monday to Friday this week, you can pick up a brand new short story set in the Broken Realms – in fact, you may have read a few of them already.
Each instalment tells of an event from the Mortal Realms, as seen through the eyes of a denizen who witnessed it first-hand. What’s more, they describe actions and interventions made by some of the key players in the Broken Realms saga, from nigh unstoppable gods to dread creatures of terrible power.
If you’d like to know a bit more about what you can look forward to reading, here are summaries of all five stories.
Oracle
Liane Merciel
Set during the fall of Anvilgard, this story connects closely to the Broken Realms narrative. The main character is a Stormcast Eternal, called Etanios, who’s attached to a group of witch hunters purging cults in Anvilgard. While there, he's contacted by a rogue Aelf Sorceress, Thaelire, who warns him of Morathi's imminent treachery and tells him to flee the city and warn Sigmar. The pair (who also appeared in Covens of Blood) attempt to escape the newly transformed Har Kuron unnoticed, and they witness Morathi-Khaine in all her transformed glory as she lays waste to the city.
Archmage
Evan Dicken
Cerith Anlethir is a Lumineth scholar of magic, yet he possesses no innate magical ability himself. Mocked by his peers for his lack of power, he is approached by Teclis for a special mission to unweave a potent living spell called the Winnowing, which is being controlled by a Shardspeaker of Slaanesh. This spell feeds off mages' power, so Cerith's mundane nature is a help rather than a hindrance. Can this scholar’s source of shame turn into an advantage to save the Realm of Light?
Dark Master
Richard Strachan
In Hammerhal, an untalented tavern musician called Adel Janssen seeks a shortcut to obtaining great musical prowess. He learns of a tome containing a so-called 'secret chord' which, if played in the right place, can grant the player their heart's desire. Janssen steals the tome, travels to a crossroads and plays the note, only to summon Be'lakor! The daemon prince nonetheless honours the bargain by granting Adel the musical talent he seeks, but at what cost?
Everqueen
Noah Van Nguyen
A lowly, but long-lived clanrat called Hakwit is part of a great skaven army. This alliance of clans has hatched a wild scheme to destroy Alarielle using a warpstone bomb infused with death magic and devour her flesh to gain immortality. Hakwit realises the futility of this plan at first, but inadvertently grants the skaven an early victory over the Sylvaneth, allowing them access to the Everqueen's inner sanctum.
God of Earthquakes
Phil Kelly
Nensi of the Vexoth is a Ghurish tribesman whose people are all but destroyed in brutal fashion by a group of Mega-Gargants. In his quest for vengeance, he prays to his tribe's ancient deity, the Drogrukh lord Kragnos, who eventually awakens beneath Twinhorn Peak. However, Kragnos is a creature of pure destruction and certainly not the ally Nensi hoped he would be.
