During last year's Black Library Celebration, we got a taste of the incredible First Founding – a book chock full of background lore and art about the nine original Space Marine Chapters who remained loyal throughout the Horus Heresy. Now, this mighty tome is getting the proper treatment with a Deluxe Edition box set coming to pre-orders this weekend.
Put simply, First Founding is the culmination of decades of Space Marine lore condensed into a single coffee table-style book, with sections written by star Black Library authors Guy Haley, John French, Nick Kyme, David Guymer, and Callum Davis. It's one of the most complete guides to the Space Marines and their history ever produced, and it uncovers the inner workings of the nine progenitor Chapters across over 300 pages of background information and glorious artwork.
If you've ever wondered why the Iron Hands trust their deployments to the calculations of their tech-magi, or what it looks like on the surface of Nocturne, home planet of the Salamanders, this book is for you. It's also a great way to get acquainted with the Adeptus Astartes in general, as the histories of the First Founding Chapters echo down into their many successors.
Now the Deluxe Edition… that’s a little special. You get the same awesome content as the regular version, naturally, but this time it’s all wrapped up in a dashing blue cowhide-effect cover with silver foil details front and back. If that wasn’t stylish enough, it also comes packaged in a crisp blue presentation box that echoes the front cover inside and houses all of the premium extras.
Each Deluxe Edition copy comes with nine zinc alloy coins inscribed with the logos of each Chapter from the Dark Angels to the Raven Guard, which sit nicely in the back of the presentation box in case you want to display it with the cover open. They’re paired with a set of nine art prints showing each of the Chapters in their element – whether it’s two Space Wolves duelling for their Lord, or a White Scars Librarian channelling the storms of Chogoris.
