Dominion arrives tomorrow, and with it comes a new era for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. To mark such a momentous occasion, we’re holding an epic online preview that’s jam-packed with reveals, kicking off with a Dominion-focused edition of Hang Out and Hobby at 5pm BST/12pm EDT.
Why not hold your own glitzy launch party to ring in the new edition too? We’ve created a handy guide with five exceptional ideas to make it a celebration worthy of the Mortal Realms.
Having served us well for over two years and ushering in the apocalyptic Soul Wars story as it came, the previous edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar was a real trendsetter. It gave us such wonders as endless spells, command points, and the groundbreaking Broken Realms saga – which you’ll probably want to catch up on if you haven’t already.
So light some candles, play some solemn music, and remember the good times you had running away from Mega-Gargants and getting hit by the Purple Suns of Shyish.
By the time you read this, FAQs will be available to get your favourite faction up to speed with the new rules. Pop down to your local Warhammer store on Saturday morning and pick up a copy of the new Core Book (assuming you haven't already cracked open the special version from your Dominion boxed set).
Playing games with the old and new rules back to back is a great way to see how your favourite armies have improved and could even result in a different winner.
Some of the most striking things in the Dominion boxed set are the savage-looking shields carried by the Gutrippaz. Each has a unique design made to scare away monstrous beasties that lurk in the swamps.
As they’re round, they make a great starting point for a suitably fancy cake to celebrate the new edition. Best of all, your decorating skills don’t matter at all. While the Kruleboyz found in Dominion might have some highly detailed shields, the fact that they’re made out of swamp scrap and assorted junk means that even the roughest cake is likely to bear some resemblance.
The return of Kragnos to the Mortal Realms is one of the most important events from the outset of the new edition, and a large part of his notoriety comes from smashing every clutch of Draconith eggs he could find shortly before his imprisonment in a mountain.
Destruction players, in particular, may want to emulate their risen god by smashing a whole bunch of eggs, preferably while players of Order factions look on in despair at the mess they’re creating. The only thing you’ll want to change is cleaning up afterwards. While Kragnos was content to leave ruin in his wake, we’re not sure your parents, partners, and landlords would be so lax.
This one might be a bit tricky, but we believe in you. The Broken Realms series saw more than one new god walk the realms, and for Morathi-Khaine, it was thanks to her sheer hard work (and a little back-stabbing) that she finally achieved her apotheosis.
We don’t recommend siphoning power from the souls of your legendary ancestors – they would likely be more than a little miffed. Let’s just say anything that’s safe and legal is fair game. We would also ask that you don’t use your newfound omniscience to hustle the US Open tournament series coming up in August – we didn’t specifically ban powers of foresight, but it would be rather unsporting.
Let us know how you get on with your own launch party, and make sure you tune into our Dominion Celebration when it goes live on Warhammer Community tomorrow at 5pm BST/12pm EDT. We’ll be starting with our classic Hang Out and Hobby show which will lead into the new reveals from 6pm BST/1pm EDT – check out the guide below to see when you can watch along.
Don’t forget, there’s still time to pre-order your own copy of Dominion if you haven’t already. Once it’s gone, it’s gone – don’t miss out on your chance to own the exclusive cover art version of the Core Book and the free Coin Malleus command tokens that are only available at the Games Workshop webstore while stocks last.
