This year’s Black Library Celebration boasts an awesome release roster of books and miniatures. Fafnir Rann and Dominion Zephon arrive for pre-order this weekend – the first ever miniatures to depict characters specifically from the Siege of Terra series.
We’ve already delved into the backgrounds of Fafnir Rann and Dominion Zephon this week, but we wanted to see what’s possible when paint is applied – so we sent these two heroes out to some amazing painters, and let them work their magic.
Colin Ward
Colin kicks us off with both heroes, using matched bases to tie them together – it’s as though they’re fighting side-by-side at the Lion’s Gate during the Siege of Terra.
Alison Kersley
Alison has also produced a classic rendition of this mighty Imperial Fists Captain.
Annie Doughty
Annie has a darker take on Fafnir – with those colours, his mighty axes, and that impressive facial hair, we can’t deny that he’d fit right in among the Space Wolves.
Crystal McHaffie
Crystal has painted Dominion Zephon in a darker hue, giving us a glimpse at how the Flesh Tearers might have looked had they been around in the 31st Millennium.
Emma Durrant
Emma has also gone for a strikingly dark take on the Bringer of Sorrow, highlighted with a vivid glow on his massive power sword.
Jack Hunter
Jack has done a sterling job of applying dirt, mud, and grime to this Fafnir – it’s clear that he’s been in the thick of the action.
Rhi Field from Siege Studios
Rhi has a cleaner take, but still bears the marks of heavy fighting – just check out those chips and scratches on his armour.*
Jessica Smart
Jessica’s Fafnir looks like he’s had a tough day at work. Don’t worry, Faf – once the traitors are defeated, you can slip into a handmade sweater and have that half-pint of craft IPA.
Máryse Ouellet
As Roboute Gulliman will tell you, Space Marines look better in blue. Máryse has used parts from the Invictarus Suzerain Squad to transform Fafnir into Drakus Gorod.**
Matthew Herrington
Matthew has a great take on the two warriors. His Zephon is clad in rich burgundy, while Rann wears gunmetal armour in the colours of the Executioners – the Chapter he’d go on to found after the Horus Heresy.***
Nikki Sullivan
We’ve seen quite a few battleworn Fafnirs, but Nikki’s moody shading and immaculate yellow armour creates a captain who looks like he’s just heading off to the gates.
Peter Harrison
Peter’s Fafnir has fallen to the Dark Gods! He’s kept his yellow armour, but those axes have clearly taken a lot of skulls in the name of Chaos.
James Otero from Siege Studios
James has produced a classic take on the snarling Zephon, with some stunning clean lines.
Vince Venturella
Vince has performed a simple conversion, giving his Fafnir a helmet to protect his magnificent beard from the dangers of war.
Vincent Knotley
Finally, we have Vincent Knotley, who has produced an absolutely pristine Zephon.
