Crusade was one of the big additions to Warhammer 40,000 in the last edition, allowing you to link your games together with an emergent narrative – and a persistent army that steadily earned glory, honours, and scars aplenty.
Crusade is continuing into the new edition, though things are changing slightly. But that doesn’t mean that your loyal and long-serving veterans need to hang up their augmented bolter ammunition – your Crusade force from the previous edition can be carried over into the new one with a simple document, available to download below.
And that’s not where the action stops. Included in the Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan Core Book is the first major Crusade supplement for the new edition – Crusade: Tyrannic War.
This supplement contains everything you need to play narrative battles in a sector rapidly being consumed by Tyranids. As well as the fundamental rules for Crusade campaigns and battles in the new edition, it contains a host of Battle Traits, Crusade Relics, Blessings, Agendas, and 15 missions themed around fighting a Tyrannic War – as well as two trees of unique upgrades that can overcharge your most powerful units in different ways, depending on whether they’re monsters… or those who hunt them.
What’s more, even though the poster boys of the new edition are Space Marines and Tyranids, Crusade: Tyrannic War can be used by any faction – after all, pretty much everyone has interests in the galactic west. This expansion is included in the Leviathan Core Book, but it will also be available in a separate volume – and a shiny limited edition – that hits pre-orders next Saturday.
We can look forward to additional Crusade supplements in future, and each faction will pick up new narrative rules in their Codex – we’ll have more information as soon as it surfaces. In the meantime, copies of Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan will be hitting Warhammer stores and independent stockists on Saturday.
