It’s been one year since the third instalment in the Total War: Warhammer series threw open the gates of Cathay to us weary travellers. Since then, the entire Warhammer world has become the battleground for epic Immortal Empires campaigns. These sprawling adventures allow players to take one of 86 Legendary Lords on an all-out bid for mastery over the planet – and until today, you needed to own all three games in the series to take part.
But not any more! Immortal Empires is now out of beta, and open to all.
Thanks to a new update, which is available right now, owners of Total War: Warhammer III will be able to access the Immortal Empires campaign without owning any prior games or DLCs. If you own other games and DLCs from the series, you’ll still unlock access to the Legendary Lords and factions they feature – but it’s not a requirement.
What’s more, up to eight players can join a massive co-operative campaign – and because every Legendary Lord is present in the game world whether you own their parent title or not, your choices aren’t limited by what others own. Nobody has The Prophet and The Warlock but you? Ikit Claw will show them the error of their ways with a craftily placed Doomsphere or five.
Speaking of infernal engineers… who was that we spotted at the end of the trailer? Could it be that the smoky tang of brimstone and black iron heralds the coming of darker dawi? Are these the cursed forges of the Chaos Dwarfs?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
