Relive the fall of Anvilgard in this free Warcry campaign

Warcry CallEverchosen Header

Welcome to Call of the Everchosen, the first in a new series dedicated to the Warcry community. These articles will feature all sorts of free campaigns, challenge battles, allied heroes, and more. Today, we’re kicking things off with a foray into the final days of doomed Anvilgard, which you may remember was the locus of one of Morathi’s many power moves, and who better to tell us all about it than Warcry rules writer Sam Pearson.

Sam: With the recent release of the four Grand Alliance books for Warcry, every faction has received a wealth of new options for fighters and abilities to use in games. What got us really excited about this in the Warhammer Age of Sigmar studio was conjuring up ideas for campaigns set outside of the Bloodwind Spoil, across the varied and vast Mortal Realms themselves.

At the same time, the Broken Realms series has kicked off with the explosive revelations inside Broken Realms: Morathi, so we thought it would be exciting to put together a Warcry campaign that takes place over the final days in Anvilgard, before its fall.

In this campaign, one player takes the role of Keiser Ven Brecht, the staunch Lord-Veritant of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer, who is trying to uncover the plot behind a series of murders across the city. The other player takes the helm of the Blackscale Coil, a criminal organisation that operates in the city’s shadows.

What makes this campaign cool are the decisions each player has to make in between battles. For the player assuming the role of Ven Brecht, you’ll pick which areas in the city to search first – will you venture out into the Gullies or perhaps explore the vast Undertunnels that lie below? For the Blackscale Coil player, you have to choose how to divide your assets among the different locations and decide which one of them will stage an ambush.

There are some extra tools and options for each player to use too. Ven Brecht has his own fighter card and abilities (including one that allows him to interrogate an enemy mid-battle), while the Blackscale Coil player can employ a Scourgerunner Chariot if they wish. In fact, the Blackscale Coil player can make use of every miniature included in the Start Collecting! Anvilgard set.

With a little bit of imagination and tinkering, you could use the format of this campaign to tell a story suited to a different collection of Citadel miniatures. For example, one player could take the role of the Order of Azyr hunting down a Tzeentchian cult or Skaven infiltrators in a city. Another idea is for a campaign that takes place on the streets of Carngrad in the Bloodwind Spoil, where one of the Chaos warbands seeks to hunt down and assassinate a Talon of the city in a desperate bid for power.

This campaign marks the beginning of regular Warcry content we’ll be uploading to Warhammer Community, so keep your eyes peeled next month when we’ll be sharing a campaign that ties into the events from Broken Realms: Teclis.
