The Leagues of Votann are the latest addition to the 41st Millennium, and their whole range is available to pre-order this weekend. You can collect a Kinhost or Oathband representing one of the major Clans, or even create your own with a unique paint scheme.
To celebrate this newest faction's release, the Warhammer World Exhibition team have created an incredible display to really show off the Kin’s new miniatures.
The result is The Envoy’s Cargo, which features a contingent of Kin exploring the wreck of a crashed Imperial spaceship.
Every diorama in the Warhammer World Exhibition is built around a narrative. These range from famous battles to scene-setting micro-stories told in miniature.
For the Leagues of Votann, the team decided on a display showing Kôvhyn’s Oathband from the Trans-Hyperian Alliance exploring the abandoned innards of a crashed voidship after responding to a saviour beacon. Little do they know, nightmares await them in the shadowed chambers and sparking wires of the Envoy.
Working with a relatively small cabinet*, the team wanted to get the most out of a compact area. By choosing an expeditionary crew, they were able to get a squadron of vehicles included in the diorama – disgorging their Hearthkyn Warrior investigators at the foot of the wreck.
The carcass of the Envoy also gave the team lots of modelling opportunities – creating a maze of damaged bulkheads filled with Exo-armoured Kin as they scavenge for loot, assess structural hazards, and uncover what might be the cause of the crash…**
Packing the display into such a small area challenged the team to get the most out of the space they had. Leaving the back off the diorama allowed them to place a mirror in the cabinet to make the corridors and bulkheads look like they stretch off into the murky depths of the Envoy.
The mirror has the added effect of making it look like there are even more Kin poking around checking for salvage.
To make it look like the ship's internal structure is laid bare, the team used electrical wires, stripped in places to show exposed copper, and painted them up to add texture to the display.
You can visit Warhammer World to see this display in the flesh, where the mirror effect is really enhanced! What’s more, there’s also an opportunity to spot all the easter eggs and extra details the team took the time to pour into the display. *If you are able to visit Warhammer World you can see just how massive some of the displays are.
