As the master of the Soul Forges, many daemons seek out Vashtorr for the strength his artifice can provide. In exchange, the Arkifane requires mortal souls to fuel his industry – and until their debt is paid, his daemon customers find themselves indentured thralls, remade into profane machines like the Soul Grinders he supplies to the Dark Gods.
The duplicitous dalliances of daemonkind hold no appeal for Vashtorr’s clockwork mind. He prefers to entwine his partners in carefully-worded contracts that – while never fair – always grant exactly what they promise. It’s the daemons who entrap themselves in the Arkifane’s service, as their obsessive natures deepen the spiral into soul-debt that grows with every defeat.
Such is the value of Vashtorr’s industry that the four great Chaos Gods fear the consequences of moving against him – after all, he could simply begin arming their rivals in the Great Game. This fragile balance has given the Arkifane the leeway to amass more power than most other warp entities, and even Be’lakor, who holds no small measure of contempt for the industrious demigod, hesitates to take overt action against his rival.
As for what Vashtorr wants – none can say, save the Soul Forge King himself. Yet his quest for the relics gathered by his Arks of Omen can be for no small ritual – and he’s even willing to challenge the Dark Angels in the heart of their own fortress to get what he wants.
With Angron now getting involved in the siege of Malakbael – a planet on Vashtorr’s shopping list, surrounded by almost all of Indomitus Fleet Quartus – the Arkifane’s plans are accelerating.
