We’re back in the Mortal Realms this week, and not just for another tangle with the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The next big expansion for Warcry is on the books, and Black Library is even getting in on the action with a look back into the events that built the reputation of Tahlia Vedra.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Introductory Set
All journeys into the Mortal Realms start somewhere, and the Introductory Set is the perfect product for those who want to dip their toes into Warhammer Age of Sigmar for the very first time. Each of the 25 miniatures contained within – five Stormcast Eternals Liberators and 20 Skaven Clanrats – can be popped right out of the sprue with no clippers needed, and assembled without glue.
The Introductory Set also includes six paints and a paintbrush, for your first taste of the vast painting side of the hobby. Finally, there’s a play mat, six dice, a range ruler, and a 48-page handbook to guide you through your first few games and ease newcomers into the universe of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Starter Set
If you already know your way around a battlefield and want to get off to a roaring start with the new edition, the Starter Set has everything you need. It includes 35 push-fit miniatures* – a Lord-Veritant with Gryph-crow, three Prosecutors, five Liberators, a Grey Seer, a Warlock Engineer, three Rat Ogors, and 20 Clanrats – along with a guidebook, range rulers, dice, and a double-sided board to get you into the game.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Ultimate Starter Set
Start your collection off with a bang with the Ultimate Starter Set, a full spectrum introduction to Warhammer Age of Sigmar packed with miniatures, game aids, and rules designed to get you started with the new fast-paced game mode Spearhead. It contains all of the miniatures found in the Starter Set, plus a Lord-Vigilant on Gryph-stalker, a Clawlord on Gnaw-beast, and all the terrain you need to start playing.
This set comes with a portable version of the Fire & Jade Spearhead rulebook found in the Skaventide box set, which guides you through this quick and deadly new game mode, and includes warscrolls for every Spearhead force currently available. Pair that with the Battle Tactics and Twists decks found in the box, and you’ll be playing rapid-fire games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar in no time.
Stormcast Eternals Paint Set
Want to cast your lot with the forces of Order, but need to brush up on your painting skills first? The Stormcast Eternals Paint Set is the box for you. Each one comes with a starter brush, three push-fit Liberators, and a curated selection of six paints perfect for practising the classic Hammers of Sigmar colour scheme: Retributor Armour, Kantor Blue, Corax White, Leadbelcher, Agrax Earthshade, and Astrogranite.
Skaven Paint Set
If your allegiance instead lies with the Great Horned Rat, the Skaven Paint Set will be more up your (dark and infested) alley. This set comes with five push-fit Clanrats, a starter brush, and six paints geared towards the scuttling, downtrodden Skaven: Khorne Red, Rakarth Flesh, Steel Legion Drab, Leadbelcher, Agrax Earthshade, and Astrogranite.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar Paint + Tools Set
If you’re looking to partake in the Starter Set or Ultimate Starter Set, or want to dive into the painting side of the hobby post-haste, the Paint + Tools Set is the ideal place to get your hobby toolkit moving with a pair of Citadel Starter Set clippers, a starter brush, and a mouldline scraper. It also includes 13 paints suitable for all kinds of colour schemes: Corax White, Abaddon Black, Averland Sunset, Leadbelcher, Kantor Blue, Khorne Red, Rakarth Flesh, Retributor Armour, Waaagh! Flesh, Bugman’s Glow, Steel Legion Drab, Agrax Earthshade, and Astrogranite.
Getting Started with Warhammer Age of Sigmar
The Mortal Realms are vast and it’s easy to get lost among the sweeping landscapes and bustling cultures, so the novice explorer can’t go wrong with a guidebook. Getting Started with Warhammer Age of Sigmar is an 88-page introductory magazine that lays out all the basics you need to know before venturing out into the realms – from hobby basics to background lore – and it even comes with two unique push-fit miniatures mounted on their own sculpted bases for display.
Warcry: Briar and Bone
Disgraced Ossiarch hunters take their tithe-collecting to the twisted boughs of the Gnarlwood in Briar and Bone, the latest expansion for Warcry. There they’ll come up against the warped spite of the Twistweald – corrupted spirits of the Sylvaneth turned wrong by the wood’s malevolent mien.
This set also contains a new Ravening Gnarloak scenery piece, the 64-page Warband Tome: Briar and Bone, 12 fighter cards, three ability cards, three divider cards, and 42 battleplan cards.
Pyregheists
Nagash has always been one for ironic punishments, and so the tortured spirits known as Pyregheists find themselves wrapped in eternal balefire – damned for the crime of preserving living souls through flame and sacred unguents. This warband of eight wailing warriors seek only to torment those who would deny the Great Necromancer his rightful harvest of souls, and woe betide any who find themselves illuminated by the soul fire of their haunted braziers.
Ydrilan Riverblades
The Lumineth Realmlords’ most skilled fighters take on the attributes of aelemental spirits drawn from the lands of Hysh, with the deadly warrior-monks of the Ydrilan Riverblades paying homage to the equine grace of their riverside home. This warband of 10 agile fighters excels at avoiding harm and counter-attacking their opponents, before repositioning to spring upon vulnerable enemies left stranded in their wake.
Idol of the Old Ones
Remnants of the Seraphon temple-ship Eye of Chotec litter the undergrowth of the Gnarlwood, often stumbled upon by battling warbands as they hack blindly through dense carnivorous forests. This large terrain centrepiece is a great addition to your collection of Warcry or Warhammer Age of Sigmar scenery, and is a convenient platform from which more agile fighters can leap to gain an advantage over their plodding foes.
Lioness of the Parch
Tahlia Vedra is a talented warrior, a ruthless mercenary, and champion of Hammerhal Aqsha, but when the Chaos Warlord Mausolus Ebonpyre crushes a well-defended citadel, she is thrown into unfamiliar territory: politics. Now, she must find common ground with old rivals and become versed in the political machinations in order to orchestrate a favourable showdown with Ebonpyre, who seems to be one step ahead of her at all times.
Lioness of the Parch by Evan Dicken will be available to pre-order in hardback, eBook, and audiobook formats.
Blacktalon
Five powerful champions of Chaos have discovered the existence of a long-buried weapon with incredible power, and have plans to use it. After being sent a troubling vision of their latest quarry by Sigmar himself, Neave Blacktalon and her hand-picked team of Stormcast Eternals must hunt them down to save the Mortal Realms.
Blacktalon by Liane Merciel will be available to pre-order in paperback format next week.
Shroud of Night
Kassar and the Unsung, his elite band of Alpha Legionaries, plan to infiltrate the hive world of Tsadrekha. Their mission is to steal a beacon being fought over by ravening warbands of Heretic Astartes, who have been lured by its ability to hold the darkness of the Noctis Aeterna at bay. Their plans are complicated by the arrival of Khârn the Betrayer, who is mustering a mighty army to take the planet for himself in an apocalyptic assault.
Shroud of Night by Andy Clark is available to pre-order in audiobook format next week.
All of these products are available to pre-order now at the Warhammer webstore.
