Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm – Shining a Light on the Lumineth

As we gear up for the impending launch of Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm, we've been taking a detailed look at the warbands you'll be playing with in the new season of the ultimate competitive miniatures games.

Yesterday, we had a look at the Dread Pageant. Today, it’s the turn of Myari’s Purifiers as we show off what this Lumineth warband can do.

Hailing from the Great Nation of Ymetrica, Myari and his kin descend upon Beastgrave convinced that they alone can end the hunger of the living mountain. This four-aelf warband is perfect for fans of the flex-style play, as they’re able to grab objectives, kill enemy fighters, and cast magic.

They also introduce a new mechanic into the game – aetherquartz counters. Each fighter starts with one of these counters that can then be spent to give a re-roll for attack, defence, or casting rolls.

Myari Lightcaller

Myari is the leader of the warband and also its spellcaster. As with his buddies, Myari Inspires with an attack, defence, or casting roll that contains only successes, making that aetherquartz re-roll incredibly valuable. But it does raise an interesting question – are you going to use the Staff of Enlightenment to try to Inspire Myari even though it’s a single dice attack so could be easily defended against?

Bahannar

With two defence dice, Bahannar is the tank of the warband. Since he can’t be driven back if he doesn’t have any Move or Charge tokens, he’s ideal to pop on an objective near the centre of the board and keep enemy fighters away with that range 2 attack (especially since it deals a mighty 3 damage when he’s Inspired).

Ailenn

Ailenn is the scalpel to Bahannar’s hammer, able to dance between incoming ranged attacks to finish off opponents with her blade. She gets an extra attack dice and Cleave when she’s Inspired, making her even more dangerous.

Senaela

It wouldn’t be an aelf warband without an archer, would it? The lofted version of Senaela’s attack goes up to a preposterous range FIVE when Inspired – so there really isn’t anywhere to hide!

It’s in the Cards

With 32 warband-specific cards, there are several ways of building a deck to support the strengths of Myari’s Purifiers. For example, you can claim glory for having three or more surviving, Inspired fighters, which you can influence by spending your aetherquartz tokens.

Alternatively, you can keep them and take advantage of a set of new Elemental ploy cards. Each of them can be boosted by spending an aetherquartz token. For example, you can damage an additional enemy fighter when you Channel the Wind.

There are also upgrades that can benefit from those unspent aetherquartz tokens. Speed of Hysh gives you +2 Move if you have unspent tokens – giving Bahannar a serious threat range. Heightened Reflexes also grants you extra movement and a reaction if your fighter gets attacked.

Learning how and when to spend your aetherquartz tokens is the key to being successful with Myari’s Purifiers. Use them too early and you might miss out on making the most of some bonuses, but if you hang on to them too long your fighter might be out of action before they get to spend their token.

While you mull over the best time to use an aetherquartz token, you can take a look at all of the cards for Myari’s Purifiers right here. First up we have the Objective cards that you’ll use to score glory points in Direchasm.

Here are the Power cards for Myari’s Purifiers – a range of Ploys, Spells, and Upgrades that accentuate your abilities and help you score those Objective cards.

Myari’s Purifiers are available in the Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm boxed set, which is available to pre-order from Saturday.* In the meantime, join us over on the Warhammer Underworlds Facebook page to let us know how you’ll be using the new Lumineth warband.

* Unfortunately, Direchasm has been delayed in Japan. Keep an eye out for more information as we have it!
