October’s issue of White Dwarf features the first instalment of a new type of article series, called Flashpoints. Each Flashpoint will home in on a campaign being fought at a specific time and place, offering expansive lore and new rules that enable you to re-enact the key engagements of the conflict. Join us as we learn more about the inaugural Flashpoint, set in the Argovon System…
The Argovon System
The action takes place in the Pariah Nexus. The Argovon System serves as a waypoint along the border of the Zone of Silence – it’s an area that is crucial both to the plans of the Necrons and the Imperium’s attempt to thwart them. At the forefront of this conflict is Battle Group Kallides, an Imperial fleet comprising a vast ensemble of military might sent forth from Holy Terra by Roboute Guilliman as part of the Indomitus Crusade.
Arrayed against them are the combined Necron forces of the Szarekhan and Oruskh Dynasties, who seek to maintain the network of noctilith pylons erected there. Reports also tell of an Aeldari presence within the region, though, as is often the case with their kind, their intentions remain unclear.
In addition to introducing the Argovon System’s six worlds in great detail, the article breaks down the disposition of Task Force XI. This subdivision of Battle Group Kallides, under the command of High Field Marshal Janred Remko Hynflaager, is spearheading operations in the system.
The Argovon Campaign
The lore and background of the setting is just the start of what each Flashpoint has to offer! There are rules for a dedicated campaign that you can play, set within the Argovon System. This will be of particular interest to Crusade players using the Beyond the Veil Mission Pack to explore the Pariah Nexus in their games, as the Flashpoint’s campaign rules have been designed to work seamlessly with Crusade (or any other way to play, for that matter).
Not only that, but there are also new Theatre of War rules, representing some of the most extreme environments that the warring factions vied over, as well as bespoke Campaign Agendas that enable you to replicate their various motivations.
As if all that wasn’t exciting enough already, Warhammer 40,000 background writer Callum Davis has even penned a short story telling the tale of one of the many battles that took place within the Argovon System.
Believe it or not, that’s only the opening part of White Dwarf’s first-ever Flashpoint – there’s more to come next month in Issue 458! If you want to make sure you never miss an issue, grab yourself a subscription and you’ll be good to go.
