Blood Angels. World Eaters. Commander Farsight. There are few things in Warhammer 40,000 that go together better than red-hued power armour and a predilection for close combat. It’s a striking combo that the Flesh Tearers Chapter embodies with worrying glee.
We first revealed Wrath of The Lost – the upcoming novel starring Gabriel Seth’s ecstatic exsanguinators – back in October, and new details have now emerged.
Between the Great Rift, Hive Fleet Leviathan, and the ever-present pull of the Black Rage, things are looking pretty bad for these infamous Blood Angels successors. Their vengeful campaign to secure Baal has left them drastically reduced in numbers – even with an influx of Primaris reinforcements, the Flesh Tearers need to get recruiting, and fast.
Unfortunately, their home planet of Cretacia has fallen eerily quiet…
“Wrath of the Lost sees a new generation of Flesh Tearers follow the footsteps of their mythic founder in a long journey to their spiritual homeworld, Cretacia”, explains Will Moss, editor on Wrath of the Lost. “It’s a world neither of our main characters – the ambitious Apothecary Barachiel, and the arrogant Chaplain Dumah – have ever known.”
Cretacia’s a long, long way from Baal, and no journey is smooth sailing in the Era Indomitus. “They’ll have to carve a bloody odyssey to get there, one that wears them down every step of the way”, says Will. “All while the Red Thirst grows and the threat of the Black Rage looms over them.”
“Our protagonists have very different answers to these problems, which puts them at one another's throats – so how are they going to keep the Fourth Company whole when they themselves are anything but? Chris has captured the heart of the Flesh Tearers – they’re Sanguinius’s wrath given form, walking a fine line between controlled savagery and wanton bloodlust.”
Chris Forrester’s rip-roaring tale will be with us in the new year. You can also check out his previous Flesh Tearers short story Disgraced in The Successors: A Space Marine Anthology.
And for those budding writers out there, you’ll be interested to hear that Chris got his start with the Black Library Open Submissions programme – which reopens once again early next year! The theme is even Successor Chapters…
