The events of Arks of Omen: The Lion still have us buzzing here at Warhammer Community, and it seems like the Battle Report crew are just as fired up. There’s a gigantic 130 Power Level showdown inspired by the books on the cards this week, and it’s finally time to see the epic Battle of Wyrmwood play out.
It’s not just the Dark Angels pitching in against Angron’s World Eaters – Commander Dante has descended with his golden elite to aid the cornered Azrael in his time of need. Can the Khornate horde stand up to the might of two Chapter Masters and a Primarch? We caught up with Simon and Nick from the Battle Report crew to give us the lowdown:
Warhammer Community: So this is it, right? The showdown of all showdowns? Two Primarchs duelling it out!
Nick: With #New40k on the horizon, this is likely the last game of the current edition of Warhammer 40,000 we’ll play on Battle Report. We wanted to give it an absolute massive send off with a truly apocalyptic battle. So what better way than to create our very own custom narrative mission where the newly returned Lion El’Jonson faces off against his daemonic brother, Angron, to see once and for all who is best?
WarCom: This is a narrative game; what inspired you to play this way?
Simon: The Arks of Omen books have really sparked my imagination, weaving an epic thread across the galaxy. When I read Arks of Omen: The Lion, I knew I wanted to play a game representing the Battle of Wyrmwood, so I put my mind to the task, writing a custom scenario and gathering together all the miniatures we would need!
WarCom: What can you tell us of Wyrmwood?
Simon: Wyrmwood is a Daemon World created by Vashtorr the Arikfane, designed to be a perfect parody of the now destroyed homeworld of the Dark Angels, Caliban. It’s an affront to the Unforgiven, so Azrael has led an assault on the planet. But a force of World Eaters lie in wait, led by the Daemon Primarch, Angron the Red Angel…
WarCom: But the Dark Angels are not alone?
Nick: No; I was surprised when Commander Dante and a Blood Angels relief force dropped in to lend a hand… and then emerging like a ghost from his Forestwalk, Lion El’ Jonson himself!
WarCom: So this is a blood bath?
Simon: As all games of Warhammer should be! The mission saw us scoring Kill Points for killing enemy models, so Nick and I really went for it… and, of course, it was all leading up to the epic duel between the brothers.
WarCom: How did that go?
Nick: You’re gonna have to tune in to Battle Report and watch the game to find out, but suffice to say, there are many twists and turns.
Thanks guys! Make sure you tune into Battle Report this week on Warhammer+ to see how the game went! If you didn’t manage to pick up the Lion with his Retinue when they went up for pre-order at the weekend then don’t worry! The standalone release will be hitting Warhammer stores very soon, giving you time to get him battle ready in time for the new edition.
That’s not all heading to Warhammer+ this week, as the next episode of the new animated series Blacktalon continues the story of Neave and her team – this time, chasing a former magister of Azyr who abandoned Sigmar for promises of eternal life.
Meanwhile, Loremasters reads the celestial chronicles of the Slann, discovering who the powerful mage-priests are and why they’re so obsessed with the Great Plan.
