Unleash Your Warcry – New Tomes and Quests Await!

Warcry Lore Focus Banner

Warcry is about to be blessed with bucketloads of fresh content, as no fewer than five books are up for pre-order this weekend.

In addition to this year’s Tome of Champions, there are four Grand Alliance books, each home to rules for their constituent factions and much more besides. Today, we’re taking a look at them all in greater detail.

Grand Alliance Books

There are many reasons why warriors venture to the Eightpoints in search of fame and fortune. Some aspire to undermine the rule of the Everchosen, while others seek the transmutational realmstone known as varanite for their own purposes. For his part, Archaon cares little for these trespassers in his domain, for they pose no threat to his power and offer his servants ample means to test their mettle and grow in strength.

That’s where the new Grand Alliance books – Sentinels of Order, Harbingers of Destruction, Bringers of Death, and Agents of Chaos – come in. First and foremost, they include the rules for a total of 39 different warbands between them, divided into the Grand Alliances from which they hail.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to see how the Ossiarch Bonereapers or Cities of Sigmar would get on should they enter the skirmish battlefields of Warcry, you’ll soon be able to muster your own warbands and find out!

But that’s just the start. Each book also includes background tables, several fated quests, and challenge battles for that Grand Alliance’s warbands to fight in, enabling you to take each of them on a journey befitting their nature. If you like to immerse yourself in the narrative while playing, then you’ll have all the supporting rules content to do exactly that!

Tome of Champions 2020

Warcry traditionally receives an extra-special treat at this time of year in the form of the annual Tome of Champions, and 2020 is no exception. As with its predecessor, Tome of Champions 2020 is chock full of new content for the game. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

  • Rules Updates: Including a rebalancing of the glory points system as well as updates to reinforcements and the use of Consumable items.

  • Expanded Rules for Open Play: Rules for Triumph & Treachery Pit Fights – multiplayer games for 3-6 players controlling up to three fighters each.

  • Expanded Rules for Narrative Play: Detailed background on Soroth Kor, The Silent City, and rules for playing a campaign within its long-abandoned streets. It also includes new narrative battleplans, fated quests,* and a Trial of Champions campaign that any warband can take part in.

  • Expanded Rules for Matched Play: Six new battleplans for the 2020/2021 season that complement those found in the Tome of Champions 2019, including hidden agendas and rules for running escalation tournaments.

Believe it or not, that’s not even all! For example, we didn’t even mention how you’ll be able to join forces with a rival to take on a terrifying monstrous foe such as a Mega-Gargant!

If you’ve ever been tempted to give Warcry a go, now’s the time – there’s never been greater diversity within the game in terms of the factions you can use and the ways you can play. * Some of these fated quests take place underground and use all the awesome new environmental rules from Warcry: Catacombs!

** Sadly, due to an unforeseen delay in these difficult times, hobbyists in North America will have to wait another week before you can pre-order these books.
