Here at Metawatch, we love nothing more than poring over the fine detail of an army list, cooing and gawping at unexpected unit choices and clever wargear options like a baby fascinated by a set of jangling car keys.
So, when we heard that Battle Forge – the official army-building tool for battles in the 41st Millennium – was coming to Warhammer 40,000: The App, our minds immediately turned to the possibilities for competitive players, tournament organisers, and meta-obsessed hobbyists.
If you've been following Metawatch since its inception, you'll know Mike Brandt as the head of the Games Workshop events team, but his sheer amount of knowledge of competitive Warhammer has also been invaluable to the team building Warhammer 40,000: The App.
Now that the Battle Forge beta is live – and free to try if you act fast – we decided to take a break from our regularly scheduled episodes in order to catch up with Mike to get the scoop on this game-changing feature.
There's a lot more on the way for Battle Forge in the coming weeks and months, and we'll continue to pester Mike for gossip, updates, and privileged information at every step of the way. Watch this space for the latest news.
And, if you're looking for one more reason to give Battle Forge a go, perhaps the promise of fabulous prizes will suffice. Right now, you can win your army by building a force in Battle Forge and sharing it on social media. Five lucky, lucky people will win their armies and become the envy of their friends.
If you haven’t already downloaded Warhammer 40,000: The App for yourself, you can take care of that right away.
The Battle Forge beta already lets you build validated matched play armies in a matter of minutes, but that's just the beginning. Mike and his team are working hard on making this the ultimate tool for tournaments, clubs, and events. Speaking of which...
While 2020 may not have been the busiest year in terms of Warhammer 40,000 events, that's set to change in the very near future. We, too, miss the thunderous roar of a thousand simultaneous dice rolls, the joyful cries of victory, and the ignominious howls of defeat. Oh, and the sound of a tape measure snapping back into place – that's a good one. We can't wait to see you all in-person at Warhammer 40,000 events again soon.
We'll have more to reveal on that front in the near future, but suffice it to say that events will be making a comeback in a major way. We can't wait to tell you more.
