The Age of Sigmar is a vast setting full of incredible sights, unbelievable fauna, and most importantly, lizards riding even bigger lizards. In their infinite wisdom, the Old Ones planned for the renewed brutality of the Era of the Beast by preparing powerful spawnings aeons in advance.
When Ghur’s bellow of rage echoed across the Mortal Realms, clutches of inert eggs suddenly began to respond to sacred revivification technology, hatching plumed Raptadons. These curious creatures are associated with the great Tepok, one of the wisest of the Old Ones, and display a keen intellect roughly on par with the cunning Skinks who ride them into battle.*
They communicate in a unique clicking language, but remain deathly silent when hunting their prey – conveying their intent through waves of colour that shimmer across magnificent feathered crests.
These swift Skink cavalry have developed a devious twin-pronged strategy to make the most of their mounts' innate speed and synchronised pack movement. The first wave of a Seraphon assault often comprises a blistering one-two punch of Raptadon Hunters and Raptadon Chargers.
A certain Cold-blooded Unity between the two units allows Raptadon Chargers to deal increased damage with their Tepok Lances if the unit they target has already been distracted by a hail of celestite-tipped javelins from their Hunter counterparts.
Operating with a lethal harmony, Raptadon Hunters react to their charging brethren with sharp reflexes, letting loose surprise volleys from their Starstone Atlatl that rain down at the end of their owner’s charge phase. This Deadly Cohesion of withering ranged attack and lightning-fast charge can only land if the Hunters remain within 12” of the unit engaged by the Chargers’ target unit while also staying 3” from enemy units.
These nimble skirmishers will be striking out ahead of the main Seraphon release and arriving in the Seraphon Army Set, which goes up for pre-order this weekend. It’s also the first place you’ll be able to pick up Battletome: Seraphon and the first wave of the new Seraphon miniatures.
With 10 Raptadons inside, you can build them as either Hunters or Chargers. Keep a beady, unblinking eye on Warhammer Community this week as we unpack the details of the rest of the contents.
* Both parties see this as a boon, though you have to wonder if the Raptadons ever wonder why they’re the ones being ridden.
