An elemental storm is brewing in the Mortal Realms, as Battletome: Fyreslayers and Battletome: Idoneth Deepkin prepare to hit pre-order this weekend.
We’ve recently covered the Idoneths’ nasty new Isharann Rituals and their armies of Leviadons and Allopexes, as well as the Fyreslayers’ ability to run a Battleline of Magmadroths and make full use of the Battlesmith’s fiery proclamations.
Today, we’re taking a look at a powerful command ability that sets the Fyreslayers apart from their rivals – Fierce Counter-Attack. Once the preserve of the notoriously powerful Hermdar lodge, this renamed ability – which allows your infantry to hit back with a vengeance thanks to the strike-first effect – is now available to all Fyreslayer armies.
Fierce Counter-attack has been refined from its previous incarnation. The selected unit must be within 3” of an enemy unit that charged this turn, but – crucially – it can’t be within 3” of an enemy unit that hasn’t charged. The scions of Grimnir are furiously stubborn – and stubbornly furious – but even they can’t completely ignore a pincer attack.*
This command can now be issued to Auric Hearthguard, as well as Hearthguard Berzerkers and Vulkite Berzerkers. Thanks to their magmapikes, these stout ranged fighters can potentially Unleash Hell (and gobbets of molten rock) on a charging foe before finishing them off with a Fierce Counter-Attack for a deadly one-two punch.
The Mortal Realms are rife with units who gain brutal bonuses from launching a charge, such as Blood Knights or Dracothian Guard Fulminators. By calling for a Fierce Counter-attack, you can blunt devastating stampedes that might otherwise trample your warriors – your opponent’s Morrsarr Guard can’t put their voltspears to work with an axe lodged in their fancy helmets!
However, each unit can only receive this command once per battle. You’ll need to be careful when you give the order for your Fyreslayers to counter-whack their opponents in the face – high-speed hacking is tiring work.
Battletome: Fyreslayers will be available to pre-order this weekend, so there’s not long to wait before you can start ransacking the realms for every last bit of ur-gold in Grimnir’s name.
