As the year draws to a close, we’re taking a look back at all the Warhammer goodness that 2021 has brought us – from some of the most impressive miniatures ever made to action-packed Warhammer animations. Here’s a highlight reel, for your viewing pleasure!
Whether you’re a fan of Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, or anything in between, this year has brought us a veritable glut of astonishing releases, even in face of a global pandemic and the effect it’s had on worldwide shipping. Here are five of our favourites from the past 12 months to ring in the new year.
Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team
Skirmish warfare in the 41st Millennium, redefined.
February saw the release of Kill Team: Pariah Nexus, with a host of new miniatures, including the highly anticipated Heavy Intercessors and Flayed Ones.
Kill Team: Octarius followed later in the year, with fully redesigned rules heralding a new era for the skirmish game – not to mention some wonderfully characterful new troops for the Death Korps of Krieg and Ork Kommandos. It was accompanied by a totally awesome cinematic trailer that brought the game's atmospheric setting to life on the screen in spectacular (and explosive) fashion.
Last month, the T’au Empire and Adepta Sororitas entered the fray with Kill Team: Chalnath, complete with stunning models for these rival factions. With more to come in 2022, there’s never been a better time to get involved in Warhammer 40,000’s ultimate skirmish game.
Be'lakor, the Dark Master
The First Daemon Prince grew in power… and size!
In 2021, the First Daemon Prince of Chaos made his dread presence felt in both the 41st Millennium and the Mortal Realms. The astonishing new model finally gives Be'lakor a physical stature worthy of his dark grandeur in the lore – not to mention the perfect canvas for some of the world's best painters to create true masterpieces.
Kragnos, the End of Empires
The god of earthquakes made a seismic impact.
In May, Gorkamorka got some divine competition in the form of another god of Destruction – Kragnos, the End of Empires – who tore free from his Ghurish prison to rampage across the Realm of Beasts in the form of this imposing miniature. The thunderous return of the god of earthquakes drew the Broken Realms saga to a close, ushering in a new epoch for the Mortal Realms.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Dominion
The Era of the Beast began in earnest.
A new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar landed in June, spearheaded by the most impressive Warhammer Age of Sigmar boxed set to date – Dominion. The launch set was chock full of new miniatures, from the angelic (but deadly) Yndrasta, and a host of brand-new Stormcast Eternals units, to an entirely new sub-faction of Orruks, the Kruleboyz.
Among other key changes, the game’s updated core rules enabled the monsters of the Mortal Realms to really live up to the hype of the Era of the Beast by unleashing monstrous rampages. Given the recent arrival of Karazai the Scarred, Krondys, Son of Dracothion, the Knights-Draconis, and lance-bearing Stormdrake Guard, the Stormcast Eternals are certainly more than ready for this bestial new age!
Warhammer+
Warhammer on demand? It doesn't get much better than that.
Warhammer+ arrived in August. Packed with exclusive shows such as Citadel Colour Masterclass and Loremasters, the archives of the Warhammer Vault, and the blood-soaked animated series Angels of Death and Hammer and Bolter, it's the place to be for any true Warhammer fan. What's more, with more fresh content being added every week, Warhammer+ is only going to get better.
Well, it's been quite the year. Here's to another fantastic year of Warhammer in 2022! On that note, check back with us tomorrow for a glimpse of what's to come in the next 12 months...
