White Dwarf 511 – Party with the Pleasure Lords

The next issue of White Dwarf magazine is up for pre-order this Saturday. The frankly excessive Issue 511 throws a big welcome party for the new Emperor’s Children, crowned with the regal visage of the Daemon Primarch Fulgrim himself.

The Emperor’s Children are the focus of no fewer than seven separate features, kicking off with an in-depth lore dive on the nature of Slaanesh himself, the emotional spectrum he inhabits, and the ways people interact with him throughout the Warhammer 40,000 universe. This segues neatly into a segment on the Emperor’s Children, with juicy lore nuggets all about their iconic units and champions.

Fulgrim gets a full 10 pages to himself, opening on his origins and dark apotheosis, before moving into an expansive hobby guide where designer David and ‘Eavy Metal painter Anja discuss his incredible miniature’s genesis. There are even a full set of paint charts for hobbyists aiming for a full box art finish, following the ‘Eavy Metal recipe down to individual glaze mixes.

A new set of Combat Patrol rules provides an alternate approach to the Codex, mixing the lithe horror of Slaaneshi daemons with their power armoured counterparts. Then, Boarding Patrol rules invite the cream of Fulgrim’s crop into ultra-close quarters combat – closely followed by a Battle Report using those very same rules to pitch a force of Terminators and Flawless Blades against Jain Zar’s Aeldari.

Speaking of the Aeldari, the second part of the expansive behind-the-scenes Designers’ Notes continues as Jes looks back at the evolution of the iconic Aspect Warriors. This time, he’s joined by a coterie of designers who worked on their most recent kits, from the Dire Avengers of 2006 right up to this year’s Warp Spiders, Fire Dragons and Swooping Hawks.

Elsewhere, the White Dwarf Bunker cooks up a new Joint Ops mission pack that tasks your operatives with disrupting a very important delivery – the Massif Ballistus’ sanctified firing scroll. In this scenario, the number of NPOs that activate or arrive as reinforcements is randomised with a deck of cards included in the magazine, making your ethereal opponent’s movements more unpredictable than ever.

As always, you can get special full-art cover versions of the magazine when you sign up for a 12-month subscription, and you’ll even save a chunk of change over buying them individually. Issue 511 goes up for pre-order this Saturday.
