Bloodshed and buboes – How daemon detachments work for the World Eaters and Death Guard

The armies of the Death Guard and World Eaters are swarming out of the Warp and into combat zones all across the galaxy, spearheaded by new champions of murder and mold.

Just like the Emperor’s Children before them, mortal champions can entreat daemonic allies, and every Codex includes a detachment that lets you field them in greater numbers.

There are few honours for the World Eaters as great as fighting alongside Khorne’s daemonic servants – and they do this through the Khorne Daemonkin detachment.

Instead of using the standard Blessings of Khorne army ability, this detachment uses the Blood Tithe to unlock powerful abilities: roll a dice any time you destroy an enemy unit to earn a Blood Tithe point on 3+. These can be spent to trigger powers like Enraged Abjuration which provides protection from psychic attacks and mortal wounds. Should the bloodshed become satisfying indeed, the Might of Khorne might let you activate two Blessings of Khorne.

With this detachment you can take Bloodcrushers, Bloodtellers, Bloodthirsters, Flesh Hounds and Skarbrand. The Daemontide stratagem enables an unending flood of violence, while you can benefit from an early yank on the Blood Tithe chain by claiming A Worthy Skull from an enemy Character or Monster.

The Death Guard, on the other hand, have a more deliberative means of inviting daemonic allies into realspace via the Tallyband Summoners.

This detachment befouls battlefields with unparalleled efficacy, contagions carried by mortal and daemon mixing together into something even more potently putrescent.

When mortals and daemons get within 7” of one another, they share their respective gifts and the bells of Nurgle toll with Reverberant Rancidity. When in range of the Death Guard, the daemons of the Plague Legions benefit from the Nurgle’s Gift ability, while their ceramite-clad associates have their Contagion range amplified.

You can welcome a whole horde of the Grandfather’s favourite children into your army, including Beasts of Nurgle, Nurglings, Plague Bearers, Plague Drones, Great Unclean Ones and even Rotigus Rainfather.

Most enemies will want to hoof it away from these combined legions as fast as they can, but the ground has become Mireslick, preventing such escapes. The Clutching Corruption that accompanies these daemons likewise incapacitates foes – who become hapless fodder for the inexorable Death Guard advance.

Both gods’ daemons will also remain in play with the detachments found in Index: Chaos Daemons, and you can pre-order each Codex on Saturday.
