It’s a great time to be a gore-slicked warrior on the Path to Glory, because Warcry’s Tome of Champions 2021 is coming to pre-order this weekend. This book will make your games of Warcry better in loads of cool new ways, like bringing Warhammer Underworlds warbands to your games as Bladeborn Fighters.
This mighty Tome also includes all the rules you need to stage showstopping siege battles, which see you team up with allies to assail settlements in the Eightpoints, including the legendary Chaos city of Carngrad.
Located in the Bloodwind Spoils, this ruined burg falls under the watch of the Seven Talons, warlords who answer directly to the Varanspire.* It doesn’t take much to start a fight in Carngrad, and the streets are usually awash with blood from the constant scraps over territory and treasure.**
That makes it an ideal target for aspirational warbands, and these Siege rules let you play out colossal coordinated assaults that are the perfect capstone for your campaigns. You’ll divide into two teams, attackers and defenders, and battle for glory over a series of objectives.
Attackers must take down a well-guarded gatehouse, but they’ll get to add a free monster of their choice to their roster to aid the assault. Defenders must repel the siege and lose as few warriors as possible while escorting a messenger off the board.
In a neat twist, once the defenders have set up their walls and gatehouse, the attacker will get to pluck a section out, representing the breach in the wall that made the attack oh-so enticing. You don’t have to besiege Carngrad, of course. There are plenty of ways to integrate sieges into your campaigns, including using the new Dawnbringer Crusade terrain, like the Domicile Shells and Nexus Syphon, to represent a freshly constructed bastion of Order that’s under siege from a whole host of Chaos, Death, or Destruction warbands.
It’s a great toolkit to amp up your Warcry games, either during a campaign or perhaps as a one-off spectacle match. It’s also just the beginning of the rich seam of content on offer in the Warcry Tome of Champions 2021 – there is also a total points update coming to the game, which covers fighter cards for all four Grand Alliances. This is the first time that such a large number of Warcry fighters have seen their points adjusted, and it should ensure that your games are even more close-fought than ever.
Limber up and get ready to join the slaughter-fest by pre-ordering the Warcry Tome of Champions 2021 this weekend. Don’t want to miss out on more chances to brawl in the Bloodwind Spoil? Sign up for our newsletter so you don’t miss out.
* Archaon’s pad in the centre of the Eighpoints – it’s also where the Varanguard hang out.
** It’s a bit like a musical, except instead of everything breaking out into song, it’s brutal, never-ending street brawls.
