Armies on Parade 2025 – The Warhammer Community team starts its journey

Armies on Parade has returned for 2025 with new categories. We’ve already seen our very first early entry with a stunning and grimy Death Korps of Krieg showcase, and the Warhammer Community team has been getting into the spirit of things too with a team entry into the Display category.

We’re mostly first-time entrants, and we’ll be keeping a semi-regular diary on our progress. Picking a theme was important, as all the best Armies on Parade display boards have a strong unifying concept behind them.

A team entry needs to account for differing skill levels and time commitments, and the fact that we all live scattered across the globe. Because it’s the year of Chaos, we decided to create a monument to the Ruinous Powers with a Slaves to Darkness entry following the Path to Glory. That lets us approach the board in segments, with different themed units, and find novel ways to tie them together.

We settled on a board split into five sections – one quarter for each of the four gods (Great Horned Rat notwithstanding) and a central raised column for a Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided and his bodyguard of Chaos Chosen.

It’s an ambitious idea, but the segmented nature should allow us to build it in stages and give each member of the team their own little private domain to focus on – very on-brand for Chaos. It also gives us the chance to build some fun terrain, and we’ll be bothering the Battle Report team for advice.

That’s checked off both cohesiveness of display theme and originality, which are two of the categories that the Judges score by, but we also need to display creativity, conversion skill and painting finesse. As a group we‘re all skilled at different things, but to meet those categories we’re going to try and integrate conversions across the five different sections, and push our painting on the centrepiece miniatures across the board.

So far we’ve got our first tentative conversions thanks to Joel, who has given his Daemon Prince a spiked flail made from Grot fanatic balls and chains, while Luke and Rob have started to paint a Chaos Chosen and a Centurion Marshal for the Undivided and Khorne segments respectively.

It’s early days yet, we’re expecting the board itself to be the biggest challenge, but we’re looking forward to seeing everyone else's progress as we put ours together.
