Golden Demon is the world’s greatest miniature painting competition, and the standard of entries is utterly astronomical. Incredible work that would dominate many other events finds itself sorely tested, and although champions ultimately win bronze, silver, and gold trophies, there remain many other beautiful works of art that grab the judges’ attention.
These entries are marked for special commendation to show the immense skill and effort that went into their creation, and to make sure they all get time in the limelight, we’re showing off every single Commended entry that passes in front of our cameras. There are so many that we’ve got to split our showcase in two, and today’s half deals with winners from the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar categories.
Warhammer 40,000: Single Miniature
This is often the most fiercely fought category in Golden Demon, and no quarter was given at this year’s competition with some truly spectacular miniatures on display.
Warhammer 40,000: Large Miniature or Vehicle
Mighty heroes and massive tanks duelled for the top spot in the Large Miniature or Vehicle category, with a handful coming within a hair’s breadth of the podium.
Warhammer 40,000: Unit or Kill Team
Units and kill teams from the 41st Millennium were combined for the first time this year, which made the competition extra tough – but not tough enough to stop these stand-out entries from grabbing the judges’ attention.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Single Miniature
More incredible pieces come from the Mortal Realms every year, and this was undoubtedly the best year yet for the headline Warhammer Age of Sigmar category. Just look at some of the work the judges deemed worthy of commendation!
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Unit or Warcry Warband
Loads of marching armies have been on display since the Dawnbringer Crusades cast Sigmar’s forces across the Realms, and luckily the best looking ones found their way to Chicago in time for Golden Demon.
Warhammer Underworlds: Warband
They may be smaller than many units from the Mortal Realms, but the warbands of Warhammer Underworlds are no less gorgeous for their trouble.
