Vampires, Sylvaneth, and Manticores Tear up Warhammer+ this Week

This week, Warhammer+ brings you two fantastic shows looking at the Mortal Realms. Battle Report sees a huge battle using the recent General’s Handbook, while Loremasters focuses on the background of Tahlia Vedra, the Lioness of the Parch. We caught up with presenters Nick and Alex to get a few more details about what you can expect…

Warhammer Community: So, it’s time for another Warhammer Age of Sigmar Battle Report, and this is a BIG one! Nick: That’s right, it’s a full 2,000-point matched play game between the Soulblight Gravelords and the Sylvaneth, so there are loads of awesome models on the table, and lots of sneaky tactics being flung about! Perhaps the biggest headline of the game is that we’re using the new General's Handbook: Pitched Battles 2023-24 for the first time on the show, and wizards are the name of the game.

As well as checking out new grand strategies, battle tactics, and a new battleplan, expect loads of magic exchanged between the armies, and some seriously devastating spells on display as we play with Primal Magic Dice to give us power beyond our wildest dreams!

(Nick laughs maniacally)

WarCom: But that’s not all that’s new, is it? There are some other new models flying about (literally) in this game, right?

Nick: Good spot! Warhammer+ subscribers have just had their first look at the new exclusive models for this year, and one of them, Karlina von Carstein, fights for the Soulblight Gravelords in the game. Ben also took Jerrion’s Delegation, a Regiment of Renown from Dawnbringers: Book I – Harbingers as allies. That’s the new Marrowscroll Herald and his contingent, who were great fun to play against… tough enemies, too.

WarCom: But we have to talk about that Sylvaneth army you guys used – it’s gorgeous! Nick: It really is, isn’t it? We were lucky enough to borrow it from Will from the Warhammer store in Kendal. It had been on display in a Warhammer World exhibition and we cheekily asked if we could nab it for the show, and he agreed… so, thank you, Will! It’s glorious to play with, and there are so many lovely little touches all over the force that really make it a joy to behold. If you want to see the army in all its glory, make sure you tune in!

WarCom: So, we’ve got new General’s Handbook rules, a new Vampire, a new Flesh-eater Courts Regiment of Renown and a beautiful Sylvaneth army, all on a fantastic board?

Nick: Yeah, this really is an episode you don’t want to miss! We had an absolute blast playing it and we hope you enjoy it too!

That’s not all from the Mortal Realms this week on Warhammer+. Loremasters takes an in-depth look at Tahlia Vedra, the Lioness of the Parch – the new hero leading the Cities of Sigmar forces. Over to Alex to tell us more…

WarCom: So, what can we expect in this week's episode of Loremasters?

Alex: Well, Tahlia Vedra is the First Marshal of Hammerhal Aqsha. Rising from humble status as a mercenary all the way up to the seat of First Marshal, she has rocketed through the ranks, developed a whole new set of tactics – dubbed the Castelite Formation – and has undoubtedly made her mark politically and militarily. So with the Cities of Sigmar getting their stunning new range of miniatures, it seemed only fitting that we delve into her lore!

WarCom: We can’t help but notice her unusual mount…

Alex: Her manticore Infernadine? I thought everyone had one…

To train a manticore takes an individual with exceptional willpower and supreme authority, qualities that Tahlia Vedra has in abundance. Infernadine is invaluable to the Lioness of the Parch, allowing her to cross great distances at speed, and crash into enemy formations. Infernadine is also a powerful symbol to friend and foe, and is often featured alongside Vedra in propaganda posters, enticing the citizens of the Free Cities to join the Dawnbringer Crusades. Vedra… isn’t particularly fond of this treatment, but understands its value.

WarCom: How does she fit in with the Dawnbringer crusades?

Alex: The Dawners are heading out into some of the most dangerous parts of the Mortal Realms to establish new cities and recover lost settlements, and who better to lead them than Tahlia Vedra? In fact, she was selected as the original commander of the Aqshian half of the Twin-Tailed Crusade!

WarCom: Original commander?

Alex: Things rarely go according to plan in the wilderness. Unfortunately, Tahlia’s had to depart the expedition, along with much of its fighting strength. But if you want to know more, you’ll have to watch this week’s Loremasters
