Back when Vashtorr the Arkifane was merrily reaving the galaxy with his Arks of Omen, combat in the close confines of ships and space stations was commonplace – and using a special set of rules called Boarding Actions, players could pit small, specialised armies against each other in a maze of dimly lit corridors and creaking bulkheads.
The edition may have moved on since then, but Boarding Actions has gone nowhere, and today the team from Battle Report have a brand new mission in which to test their close-quarters skills in the first episode of a new two-part series.
The notorious Necron chronomancer Orikan the Diviner is up to no good. Using rules taken straight from the upcoming Issue 499 of White Dwarf, the Necrons are attempting to stop a force of Black Templars from destroying a vulnerable Tomb World – by attacking the Emperor’s crusaders in the past and present!
These new Temporal Anomalies missions shake things up by having two separate boards with identical terrain layouts – one representing the Past, and one the Present. Any actions units take in one timeline may end up affecting the other, such as opening and closing Hatchways and setting timed explosives in the Past to detonate in the Present.
You can find out how Simon’s Black Templars fare against Nick’s Necrons over at Warhammer TV right now, and that’s not all being released today.
Kill Team: Nightmare is up for pre-order this weekend, and yet we know so little about the twisted, mysterious Mandrakes that seek to test their deadly skills against their Night Lords quarry. Luckily, the brave scholars from Loremasters have taken on the unenviable task of researching these creatures of shadow and spite featured on last week’s Battle Report, and reveal all they can spirit away from Aelindrach in a new episode released today.
Finally, the painters of Citadel Colour Masterclass present a phenomenally versatile tutorial on painting cracked black leather, useful on a vast variety of miniatures from veteran Space Marines to shambling undead horrors. It’s a great way to show age and experience on all kinds of different miniatures, and can be experimented with further to produce many different effects on leather.
Fans of Warhammer: The Old World have even more to look forward to, with a new competition courtesy of Cubicle 7 – publishers of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay series – bringing back the legendary Enemy Within campaign in a glorious 10-book Collector’s Edition updated for the 4th edition of the game.
