It’s Black Library Celebration Week here at Warhammer Community, and that means a fancy new commemorative miniature will soon be up for pre-order.
Previous Celebration models include Uriel Ventris, Fafnir Rann, and Dominion Zephon – and this time it’s the turn of Captain Messinius from Guy Haley’s Avenging Son.
Vitrian Messinius is a captain of the White Consuls, an Ultramarines successor chapter charged with guarding the Eye of Terror. While away in Ultramar petitioning for support, Messinius got wrapped up in Roboute Guilliman’s Terran Crusade and found himself on the Throneworld, where he and an ad-hoc band of Space Marines turned an incursion of Khornate daemons back from the Lion’s Gate spaceport.
Learning of Cadia’s fate – and the destruction of his own chapter’s homeworld in the upheaval that followed – he joined the Indomitus Crusade, commanding a contingent of Space Marines as part of Battlegroup Saint Aster. As for what happened next… you’ll just have to read Avenging Son.
You can pre-order his dramatic model on Saturday, and then you can re-enact his heroism at Lion’s Gate with a free downloadable scenario. This mission pits a powerful attacking force against beleaguered defenders who must protect vital landing zones long enough for reinforcements to arrive from orbit, with special Stratagems and unique objectives to contend with.
The mission can be played with any factions you like, so try it out and see who’s best prepared to protect the Imperial Palace in its time of need. We recommend lots of terrain to really give the battlefield the feel of an Imperial fortress!
The model itself has two head options – a helmet with a fancy laurel wreath, or a bare head. His weapons are particularly ornate – a winged plasma pistol** and the Auramite power fist presented to Messinius by Roboute Guilliman himself. You can represent him on the tabletop using rules for a Space Marine Captain wielding a plasma pistol and power fist – and you can use him in any Adeptus Astartes force.
Remember, last month we told you all about a cool competition coming to the Black Library Celebration. You can now enter to win a beautiful signed art print of the epic cover art from The End and the Death: Volume 1. All you have to do is subscribe to the Black Library newsletter by 5pm on the 5th of March 2023 and stay subscribed at least until after the prizes are drawn on the 9th of March.
Ten lucky participants will be chosen at random* to receive the print, so stay subscribed to find out who the lucky winners are – it could be you!
** Lots of effort for a weapon that will probably explode one day.
