Decide the Fate of Cthonia With the First Horus Heresy Campaign Book

The Horus Heresy has evolved from one small mention in a (very) old sourcebook into a sprawling epic of fraternal struggle and filial betrayal. The new edition of the game is going great guns with plenty of old favourites making the transition to plastic, there’s never been a better time to pick a side in the galaxy’s most violent civil war.

At the heart of this game is a powerful narrative, and the Horus Heresy team is expanding on the events of the setting with the first campaign book of the first edition, Campaigns of the Age of Darkness: The Siege of Cthonia. This hefty tome contains over 100 pages of narrative content digging into the fate of Horus’ home planet.

The old Horus Heresy Black Books were a well-loved aspect of previous editions of the game, for their rich background information and detailed coverage of key battles. This is the first volume in the current edition to follow in that style.

The planet of Cthonia is consumed by a rolling war and under siege by the Imperial Fists. Vheren Ashurhaddon, Master of the True Sons of Cthonia, vows to retake his home before Horus claims Terra, with the aid of the Word Bearers and the Alpha Legion.

Standing between the First Reaver and victory is a garrison of Imperial Fists led by Lord-castellan Evander Garrius. The Butcher of Larissan is reinforced by warbands of the Shattered Legions and even a cadre of Loyalist Thousand Sons.

The campaign system recreates this war, with rules for customising your forces beyond the usual detachment limits with campaign stratagems, character casualties, battle achievements and more.

There are two sets of missions – five new Core Missions which offer more objective-based games for use in Matched Play, and two narrative-style Apex Missions with special rules representing pivotal moments in the Siege.

Also included are dedicated rules for Zone Mortalis, including five missions and dedicated campaign rules, extra Imperial Fists and Sons of Horus rules for the characters and weapons that starred in the Siege, and a great swathe of upgrades that can be used by any Legion – from Decurion tank commanders to the unstable Inductii.
