Behold the Martian Taghmatas fresh from our community painters' forges

The launch of new miniatures is a great time to show off some excellently painted examples from the wider Warhammer community, so we sent out legions of the new Legions Imperialis Mechanicum models to our crop of expert painters to see what they could do.

The ever-reliable Vincent Knotley kicks us off with some awesome recreations of the Thallax Cohorts and battle-automata he painted for our Warhammer: The Horus Heresy showcase, matching their paint schemes despite the new miniatures being a fraction of the size.

Alison Kersley likewise painted a Vultarax Stratos-automata in the colours of a much larger Foetid Bloat-drone, which shares many of its unique design features,* while Matt Alix produced a quartet of immaculate Thanatar Siege-automata and Chris Pike pulled out all the stops on the microscopic details of an Archmagos on Abeyant.

Chrissie Orton found inspiration in the Mechanicum Battle Group's own box art, reworking the scene into an awesome epic-scale diorama with remarkable precision – right down to the Vultarax floating ominously in the background.

Many of our painters painted a wide variety of miniature mechanoids, with Chris Lewis putting in a heroic effort to paint nearly the entire set of 146. Chloe Ratcliffe picked out hers in eye-catching green – including the never seen before Arlatax Battle-automata – while Henry from Goonhammer trusted in the tried and true Martian red for his Taghmata.

Matt Crowther and Pedro Jimena López both used warmer hues for their automata, with Matt’s painted up in another classic red colour scheme while Pedro chose rich purples highlighted with silver and blue details.

Em Durrant picked her Mechanicum out in a muted colour scheme of dusty tans and metallics, while Mar Sospedra Garcia contrasted dark blues and blacks with bright red effects. Spencer also went for a sombre tone, choosing black for his automata, but picked out some panels in a fetching metallic blue that reminds us of... hold on, is that the symbol of the Alpha Legion on the automata? Those pilfering fiends.

The new Mechanicum miniatures and the Rise of the Dark Mechanicum expansion book for Legions Imperialis are up for pre-order this Saturday, so don't miss them!
