Space Marines are the Emperor’s will made manifest. Eight-foot transhuman behemoths trained since early childhood as the living bulwark against the enemies of Humanity, they hold back the darkness in nigh-impenetrable suits of power armour.
The act of preparing and donning that power armour is an important rite in Warhammer 40,000 lore. We’ve read about it in Black Library fiction and seen it in Warhammer artwork, and now we can witness it in all its gothic glory. Watch this.
This incredible depiction of the armouring of a Space Marine is full of details from the pages of Warhammer 40,000 history. It’s an epic John Blanche painting come to life, down to the tiniest details on the poor Chapter serfs who have to lug that gigantic bolt rifle up to their liege lord. And finally an answer to our most burning question – how many cybernetic skulls does it take to change into a suit of power armour?
It reminds us how rare the Space Marines are. Every piece of armour is a carefully crafted relic, and every Chapter has their own. When you field Space Marines in battle, each has gone through the required ritual and takes these honoured pieces of high technology onto the most dangerous battlefields in the galaxy.
The video was made in close collaboration with the Warhammer Studio, from lore experts to miniatures designers. It firmly counts as canon – be under no illusion, this is how the Emperor’s finest get ready for battle.
Those bolts and details you see on each panel? They have a purpose, fastening the ceramite outer layer to a complex undersuit that binds the power armour to the Space Marine’s will. The whole suit enhances his movements and allows him to fight in almost any environment, even the vacuum of space. We’ll be taking a closer look at those details on Warhammer-Community.com soon!
If you, like us, want to know more about power armour, check out next week’s episode of Loremasters. It’s coming to Warhammer+ subscribers on Wednesday, and examines all the different marks of power armour – including the version in this video, Mark X Tacticus Armour.
Now it’s time to watch the video again to see if you can spot more details. You can find more free videos and trailers on Warhammer TV, and recruit this Ultramarine to reinforce your device with an Armouring of a Space Marine wallpaper for desktop or mobile.
