For each and every hobbyist there is an edition of Warhammer that is seared into their minds as their formative version of that game. Whenever an old hobbyist closes their eyes, they can clearly see the box art…
If you’re of a certain age (though not of certain other ages…) it’s the Warhammer 40,000 core box from 1998. That’s why this week on Battle Report, our hosts are taking a trip down a particular memory lane in an episode that pits Space Marines against Drukhari.
The Black Templars are front and centre fighting the, at the time, brand new Dark Eldar – Drukhari to our modern sensibilities – in a battle to the death.
The team just had to find out who would win in a rematch between the Imperium’s most zealous Space Marines and the remorseless raiders from Commorragh – using bang up-to-date rules and the latest miniatures. Both sides have filled their ranks with fantastic reinforcements over the years, but war hasn’t changed – and they’re even slugging it out in the Meat Grinder mission straight from the 1998 rulebook.
The only way you can find out who will win is by watching the episode over on Warhammer+. Citadel Colour Masterclass meanwhile has a tutorial on how to paint the obsidian black armour of the Mortis Praetorians, the most numerous and decorated faction of the Ossiarch Bonereapers.
You can watch all of that and plenty more like them, alongside some fantastic Warhammer animations by subscribing to Warhammer+ now.
