The long-awaited MkVI Assault Marines are on their way – revealed just recently at the last Warhammer Preview Online – and the Warhammer: The Horus Heresy studio staff have been hard at work painting them for their own armies. Since they’re going up for pre-order this Saturday, we’ve also painted a few here at Warhammer Community too, and you can find them all down below.
Adam kicks things off with a Legion who couldn’t be more happy with jump pack reinforcements – the White Scars. Likewise, Jason’s Raven Guard are well versed in the art of airborne assault, while Chris’ Imperial Fists strap on combat shields to combine defence with offence.
Ash and Dan take wing with the Sons of Sanguinius while Paul dons the vibrant blue of the Ultramarines. Ben and Les put their best swords forward with a pair of Dark Angels squads, while Lewis eschews shields to equip his Imperial Fists with bolt pistols.
Chris also painted up a Blood Angels Assault Squad – no doubt following their Primarch’s example – while Mark sends the normally ponderous Salamanders resplendent with flame details into the fray.
It’s not only the Loyalist forces that got their hands on new jump packs, however. The Traitor Legions are equally eager to speed into close combat.
Chris, Dom, and James kick things off for the Traitors with their respective squads of Iron Warriors, Emperor’s Children, and Alpha Legion – tricked out with Legion-specific heads and shoulders.
Andy, Cal, and Rob also throw their lot in with the Third – Cal’s squad sporting Phoenix power-spears for some added flair – David executes a brutal speartip assault with the Sons of Horus and Rich slip more Alpha Legion assault troops past enemy lines. Jump packs are the perfect tool for jetting over fortress walls, which must explain why the Iron Warriors are double-dipping with a second squad painted by Euan.
Lastly, the most brutal assault specialists around bring up the rear with Luke’s World Eaters and a squad of Night Lords by Jim.
As you may have already seen, members of the Warhammer Community team are also building up Warhammer: The Horus Heresy armies of their own and were only too glad to add some Assault Marines to their budding Legions.
Joel’s Raven Guard have always been up for a swift and deadly assault, and the option to take a pair of lightning claws on the Sergeant is very on-brand. As usual, Joel livens up the drab black armour with loads of fine white details, making his troopers match his exquisitely painted Kratos tank Merciful Disaster.
Michael’s Word Bearers received reinforcements, whose crimson armour gleams over a metallic undercoat and plentiful silver details. The sergeant’s daemonic-looking head is from the Word Bearers Mk VI Heads upgrage kit.
The sons of Lorgar received even more jump pack support from Charlie, who used spare Apothecary parts to upgrade one squad member and create a specialist band of ghoulish Procurators.
The MKVI Assault Squad is available to pre-order this Saturday.
