Just Who Are Cado Ezechiar and Drekki Flynt? Discover The Black Library’s Newest Heroes

The Black Library plays host to many colourful characters, of whom Cado Ezechiar and Drekki Flynt are the latest to step into a starring role. Though they each have a very different approach to their adventures, these stylish scoundrels are ultimately heroes – even if doing the right thing chafes against their personal priorities.

Both Cado and Drekki are headlining their first novels – and to commemorate this, they’re both getting a beautiful miniature. It all goes on pre-order next week, so let’s take a brief look at what sets them apart.

Who is Cado Ezechiar?

Known to some as the Hollow King, Cado Ezechiar is a wandering Soulblight vampire who hungers for the most delicious dish of all – revenge.* He can only satiate this ravenous craving by slaying the Burning Hand – the sorceress of the Change God who destroyed his kingdom and his family. Fortunately, some of those he’s lost are still with him – bound as ghosts to his haunted rings.

Cado Ezechiar

As you might expect from his foreboding demeanour and well-worn attire, Cado is a highborn outcast who bears a multitude of curses – his crimson thirst, his obsession with vengeance, and his iron-cast moral code. In The Hollow King by John French, Cado’s code is tested to its limits in Aventhis, where war and deceit cloud everyone’s judgement.

You can track Cado’s journey through the short stories Beasts, and Tower of Empty Mirrors. His miniature will let you forge your own tales of vengeance, thanks to a free warscroll download coming soon.

Who is Drekki Flynt?

If Cado Ezechiar is the sullen anti-hero on a dark quest, then Drekki Flynt is his opposite – a rambunctious rogue with a love for treasure and trickery… and a heart of gold. When he steps into a tavern, half of the punters are star-struck by tales of his derring-do – while the other half mutter about debts and sharpen their knives.

Drekki Flynt

As you can see, Drekki prefers to go without a helmet – the better to show off his finely-plaited beard and dashing good looks. In Guy Haley’s The Arkanaut’s Oath, Flynt finds himself at the mercy of his nemesis – er, one of his nemeses – Rogi Throkk, who sends him to hunt a fabled artefact that soon sweeps up this crafty captain and his crew into a grand conspiracy.

Should you want to take in more of Flynt’s exploits, you can find them in The Lost Kharak and Krenkha Gorogna, which will give you plenty of inspiration for convincing this privateer to join in on your own battles with an imminent Warscroll of his own.

With so many vivid and unique characters to draw from, Warhammer fiction is also a brilliant place to go to get inspired for your own armies and characters.

The Arkanaut’s Oath and The Hollow King will both be available to pre-order this weekend, alongside their respective stars in miniature form. Make sure you head over to the Warhammer Community site on Saturday, and sign up for our newsletter for more Black Library news.
