LVO Preview 2025 – The resplendent host of Ulthuan

Far from the wartorn mass of land colloquially known as the Old World lies the magical island of Ulthuan. This is the home of the High Elves, the favoured children of the Old Ones and foremost enemies of Chaos. Despite many hard centuries, this glorious civilization is still near the peak of its lofty powers: martially disciplined and magically accomplished, the High Elf Realms are prideful to a fault. They view the other races of the world with more than a hint of derision but continue nevertheless to mobilise their armies and tame the spread of Chaos.

Their armies are elite, with warriors of superior skill and sorcerers of great puissance – and they are now ready to set sail and wage war with a plethora of miniatures old and new.

Battalion and Arcane Journal

The superior armies of the High Elf Realms are built around a core of dependable troops recruited from the citizenry of Ulthuan, and the Battalion box contains 66 miniatures with which to lay your gleaming foundations. There are 32 Elven Spearmen, 32 Elven Archers, and two Tiranoc Chariots which can also be made into Lion Chariots of Chrace. Both infantry options come with enough command options to split your units in two if you wish, and you get a new High Elf Realms Transfer Sheet, containing 356 transfers.

Arcane Journal: High Elf Realms, is a 48-page book covering the history of the Elves of Ulthuan, rules for two Armies of Infamy – the Chracian Warhost and the Sea Guard Garrison – alongside special characters, new units, and wondrous new magic items.

There is also a dice set and a Reference Card Pack which contains all your most important rules – and a lavish standalone High Elf Realms transfer sheet with magnificent iconography and runes for your shields and banners.

There is a glittering array of disciplined soldiers and elegant war machines ready to deploy, including two new heroes and a new unit.

Lord of Chrace

The wild lands of Chrace are tainted by Chaos, its creatures warped by the Winds of Magic that rage in Ulthuan, and the Elves of this realm are warriors by necessity, each a consummate woodsman and hunter bedecked in furs claimed from savage mountain lions.

The Lord of Chrace is a paragon of his realm, adorned with a lion cloak and armed with an axe and a sword which he wields with consummate grace. Made from Forge World resin, he’s an ideal pick for an Elf Lord with Chracian Honours, or as a Chracian Chieftain exclusive to the Chracian Warhost.

Ishaya Vess, Sentinel of the Silent Isle

The High Elves ply the seas with one of the grandest navies in existence. Singled out by the Sea Lord Aislinn for her unwavering discipline and fearsome fighting prowess, Ishaya Vess has been named Sentinel of the Silent Isle, granted the responsibility of commanding a coastal garrison in defence of the sacred homeland. Armed with the Trident of Mathlann’s Ire, Vess is happiest when leading a unit of Lothern Sea Guard into the heart of battle. She’s made of Forge World resin, and is a lynchpin of the Sea Guard Garrison.

Ellyrian Reavers

Ellyrian Reavers are young nobles who rove the wilds of the province of Ellyria, skilled light shock cavalry as swift as scouring gales. This new kit is heavily influenced by the miniatures found in the old Island of Blood boxed set released way back in 2010, though comprehensively resculpted for the new era.

Returning plastic kits

The High Elves have numerous returning plastic kits. The iconic Lord on Dragon returns, to be built either as a High Elf Lord or Archmage mounted on Moon Dragon or Star Dragon, or a Dragon Mage mounted on a Moon Dragon.

Alongside this sinuous scaled beast soars the magnificent Flamespyre Phoenix, which can also be built as a venerable Frostheart Phoenix – a creature near the end of its life, and whose chill aura is anathema to its fiery kin. Each can be ridden by a High Elf Lord with the Anointed of Asuryan Elven Honours.

Even the most supercilious of High Elves recognises the importance of fighting to protect the world at large and will deign to grace battlefields with their presence. Lords and Mages on foot and mounted are key figures for any Elven army, master strategists and warriors both. Sharper than any weapon is the mind of a Loremaster of Hoeth, an Elven battle-mage who has exclusively focussed their magical learnings on the most powerfully destructive spells.

As master equestrians, the High Elves have many cavalry options. The Dragon Princes of Caledor are arrogant nobles turned into self-sacrificing heroes by the flames of battle, while the Silver Helms, noble-born knights eager to prove themselves in battle.

The Lothern Sea Guard (miniatures from Island of Blood released separately for the first time) are elite marine regiments who maintain a flexible armoury of spear, shield and bow, and act as first line of both offence and defence. The silent sentinels known as Phoenix Guard are indomitable warriors cursed to know their own demise, no less resolute despite this terrible knowledge.

Other specialised units of the High Elf Realms range from the incomparable Swordmasters of Hoeth (also from Island of Blood), who have put their dusty tomes neatly back on the shelves to stride the field of battle deflecting projectiles and julienning foes with their shimmering blades, to the White Lions of Chrace, warriors of considerable valour who have successfully hunted a fearsome white lion.

The dual-purpose Sisters of Avelorn kit offers a choice between keen-eyed archers and Shadow Warriors – Nagarythian elves who chose to stay loyal to the Phoenix King. Standard Elven Spearmen and Elven Archers will also be ranking up, ready to fight for their noble masters separately in a second wave of releases.

The range is rounded out by the ever-impressive Lothern Skycutter, an agile airborne chariot drawn along by a Swiftfeather Roc. These nimble craft act as spotters for the Eagle-claw Bolt Throwers, the unerringly accurate war machines used in place of uncouth cannons and mortars, available as. The graceful Tiranoc Chariot will also arrive separately in a later wave.

Metal kits

Three classic metal kits are returning. The Handmaiden of the Everqueen is on duty to act as her mistress’s eyes and ears beyond Avelorn, while Korhil Lionmane is the greatest Elven warrior in all of Ulthuan, at least according to his brethren from Chace. Swooping in at a later date are the famed Great Eagles.

The arrogant Elves aren’t even the only reveal from the Old World today – check out everything announced at the Las Vegas Open over at the preview hub.
