Christmas is nearly here, and painters across the world have their hands on this year’s festive Citadel miniatures, Da Red Gobbo’s Surprise and the Grotmas Gitz. We asked our network of talented Warhammer hobbyists to send us their renditions of these rival grots – and they certainly delivered us a Christmas present to remember.
Da Red Gobbo’s Surprise
If you’ve read this year’s Red Gobbo Christmas comic, you’ll know that the mystery of the missing gifts got our anti-hero a bit down – Vincent Knotley seems to have taken this literally, rebranding him as the Blue Gobbo. The blue hat and robes look almost velvety, and the care Vincent took to make sure there are very different effects on the white fur trim, snow, and icicles mark this model out as one to enjoy.

Christine Coram has taken a distinctly different approach, delivering a – dare we say it? – delightfully grotty Red Gobbo. She’s re-posed the model and added a huge explosion – quite the surprise for whoever lives in that house, we imagine. Her desaturated colour palette ties the whole piece together beautifully.

These were far from the only Red Gobbos we received, and you can browse through the rest below.
Grotmas GitzRegular contributor Darcy Bono let her imagination run wild, and added shaggy fur to the squig on the Grotmas Gitz model, turning it into an abominable – not to mention adorable – snow squig. Darcy has also added some phenomenal details to the gifts in the squig’s mouth, theming them around some favourite Warhammer factions, and her unusual pallid green for the Gitz’ skin, coupled with the festive red robes, makes this a feast for the eyes.2

Siege Studios’ Rich Walker has gone for a faithful recreation of the ‘Eavy Metal paint job from the Grotmas Gitz box, and he’s executed it in style. From the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar boxes to super-crisp highlights and a vicious glow to the grots’ eyes, it’s packed full of details that reward repeat viewings. In fact, we’re just going to go and look at it again.
