Black Library Reader’s Choice 2025 – Choose which classic novel returns to print

A good book is timeless, and that’s why every year we invoke the power of the wider Warhammer community – that’s you — to give two classic novels a well deserved physical reprint.

Last year’s winners were Titanicus by Dan Abnett and Grey Seer by C L Werner, released during the Black Library Celebration last month.

This year there are two more sets of five books to choose from Warhammer 40,000 and the World of Legend.

Reader’s Choice: Warhammer 40,000

Brother-Librarian Karras leads the Talon Squad kill team directly into the depths of a deadly Genestealer lair in an attempt to save a planet from extinction in Deathwatch by Steve Parker.

Mephiston is unique amongst the Blood Angels as one who has overcome their deadly flaw. Darius Hinks explores the curse and how the Chief Librarian survived it, in Mephiston: Blood of Sanguinius

Nick Kyme is best known for writing about the sons of Vulkan, and Salamander is the first novel of the Tome of Fire series – the opening chapter of an epic saga that finds two battle-brothers embroiled in a bitter rivalry.

The demi-legio Pallidus Morr and the Imperial Hunters Titan Legion are forced to put aside their entrenched differences and fight as a unified force to reclaim a forge world from Chaos in David Annandale’s Warlord: Fury of the God Machine.

Few things are as exciting to read about as the exploits of an apocalyptic super weapon – and the valiant attempts to shut it down – and The World Engine by Ben Counter delivers both in spades as the Astral Knights attempt to stop the inexorable advance of a Necron weapon that has planet-killing firepower.

Reader’s Choice: The World of Legend

Gav Thorpe kicks off the World of Legend category with Grudge Bearer, the tale of the many grudges held by Barundin and the lengths he’ll go to in order to right these wrongs.

There are two novels from Darius Hinks. Orion: The Vaults of Winter finds the hunter king of the Wood Elves beset by a traitor in his midst, while in Sigvald, Prince Sigvald the Magnificent has become obsessed with the Brass Skull. His arrogance obliges him to possess this object of immense power even though it is held by the legions of the Blood God – regardless of the cost.

Blessed or perhaps cursed with the dubious honour of being the first vampire, Neferata by Josh Reynolds chronicles her quest to claim a new throne after the fall of Lahmia – but can she truly trust her current ally, the Lord of Masks?

Blood of Aenarion by William King is the first of the Tyrion & Teclis books, the origin story of the greatest heroes of the High Elves: the unparalleled swordsman Tyrion and the gifted sorcerer Teclis. This book covers their humble beginnings and their time spent in Lothern learning the arts of war, far from the eyes of the Witch King Malerion.
