Even before they joined the Traitor Legions, the Night Lords were, to put it charitably, murderous psychopaths with an astonishing penchant for terrifying violence. Just as the Emperor intended!
They might not yet be the daemoniacs of the 41st Millennium, but the Night Lords of the Horus Heresy had no less of an appetite for killing – and a penchant for strapping on jump packs to slaughter in close quarters.
The Legion Command Squad Upgrades Set arrives for pre-order this Saturday, so we turned to consummate hobbyist Jim for his take on the chosen warriors of the VIII Legion.
Command Squads are a trusted (relatively speaking, for Night Lords) honour guard, and this squad’s clean lines, noble accoutrements, and well-kept battle gear show them to be relatively recent converts to the Primordial Truth. The Command Squad upgrades are compatible with both MKVI and MKIII Tactical Squads, but Jim’s opted for an MKVI Assault Squad instead – taking his elite retinue airborne, and demonstrating the sheer cross-compatibility of the set.
Jim’s used many parts from the Command Squad Upgrade Set to mark these warriors out as a praetorian guard of sorts – they use the crested helms, the power swords, the combat shields, one of the ornamented shoulder pads, and the smaller, more aerodynamic standard to create an elite jump pack-wearing bodyguard.
Specifically, a bodyguard for his Praetor – a kitbash that uses Dominion Zephon as the basis for a true son of Curze. His noble helm has been swapped for the classic batwing look, while he’s traded his power sword for a chainglaive. He’s even ahead of the curve on flayed skin accessories, which flutter from his jump-pack.
You can get started on your own elite retinues from tomorrow, when the Legion Command Squad upgrades and boxes arrive for pre-order. Want to mimic Jim’s own midnight chosen? Combine them with the MKVI Assault Squad and perhaps some Night Lords resin upgrades, and you’ll be blasting about battlefields turning your foe into bright red ribbons in no time!
