The new Codex: Adepta Sororitas is going up for pre-order this weekend. We’ve already seen the high-flying battleforce and its new airborne Canoness in action, so let’s see what they can do with some new Detachments at their back.
The Hallowed Martyrs are back and just as filled with righteous indignation as before – powering up as Battle Sisters bite the bullet. The three new Detachments each take another of the faction’s big themes – fire, PENITENT units, and Acts of Faith – and supercharge them with divine power.
Bringers of Flame
The Adepta Sororitas hold the boltgun, the flamer, and the meltagun in utmost regard, dubbing them the Holy Trinity. The Bringers of Flame Detachment gives these short-ranged masterpieces a helpful boost in lethality by taking a leaf from the book of their fellow fire appreciators, the Salamanders, and adding the Assault special rule while upping weapon Strength while within 12” of their enemies.
A leader with the Fire and Fury Enhancement boosts their Sisters’ firepower even further, adding extra hits for weapons with the Torrent ability (read: flamers) while everything else gets the ever-useful Sustained Hits 1. Then, if their short-ranged guns put them in the way of an enemy assault, you can trust a spot of Lethal Hits to push damage through on tough opponents thanks to the Righteous Blows Stratagem.
Penitent Host
Failure to serve the Emperor adequately sends many pious individuals into a penitent haze as they seek to atone for their misdeeds, while less cooperative apostates have their redemption forced upon them with extensive mind-stapling and augmentative surgery. Whatever the source of their zeal, these crazed shock troops are a dangerous weapon for the Adepta Sororitas, and the Penitent Host Detachment loves nothing more than seeing just how far it can push them with a diverse choice of Vows to fulfil each round.
If faster, stronger, or more die-hard troops aren’t enough to send unbelievers screaming to their doom, you can always double the chance for the Sustained Hits 1 weapons on Arco-flagellant and Repentia squads to activate with a quick hit of the Passion of the Penitent Stratagem. With the new Combat Patrol: Adepta Sororitas packing a squad of 10 Arco-flagellants, this is a great way to get the most from your starting force.
Army of Faith
The third and final new Detachment has a very simple rule to kick things off. Do you like how Acts of Faith make your important units much more reliable when you absolutely must make a critical dice roll? Then just do it more – twice on the same unit, in fact, with the Army of Faith.
While the Sacred Rites ability is a powerful way to maximise your best and brightest, it does mean that you’ll be burning through your pool faster than usual, so some extra ways to generate more points won’t go amiss. Several options even reward you for killing enemy models, which you want to do anyway – the Blade of Saint Ellynor Enhancement is a great way to power up the new Canoness with Jump Pack and get them stuck in, while Divine Guidance all but ensures you’ll regenerate a point by slipping attacks past pesky enemy armour saves.
