This week on Warhammer+ sees a first! The guys on Battle Report have linked up with White Dwarf to play a narrative game of Warhammer Age of Sigmar based on the the Great Stomp campaign that has been featured in the magazine for the last few months – and even managed to rope in White Dwarf Editor Lyle to take part! We spoke to Gaming Presenter Nick to get the lowdown on this awesome game:
Warhammer Community: So, you’re linking up with White Dwarf? Tell us all about it!
Nick: Yes! We’ve been wanting to work with them for ages – Battle Report has its origins in the amazing battles that have been fought in the pages of White Dwarf for countless years. When the crew played out this awesome campaign over the last few issues, we knew we wanted to get involved if we could.. and they were into it!
WarCom: What was the Great Stomp campaign all about?
Nick: Ahh it was great! The forces of Destruction are heading South through Rhondol, wiping all out before them as Order try to stop them. In issue 489, it finally came to Everquake City, a City of Sigmar that was built in Lendu on fault lines, so it’s constantly quaking. Only ancient Seraphon technology is holding it together. So cool – go read about it in White Dwarf!
WarCom: So, this takes place as part of the The Great Stomp Campaign?
Nick: Our game is set straight after the last battle for the campaign was fought in White Dwarf 489. If you don’t know what happened and want to read the issue first…. I’m issuing an official SPOILER ALERT!
Ok, you’re still reading? So Everquake City has fallen to the forces of Destruction; there’re Orruks, Troggoths, and worse running around all over the place causing havoc. The population are desperately trying to escape, but their way is blocked by foul monsters. This is where the brave Stormcast Eternals of the Kraken Blades stormhost step forth to place themselves between the Orruks and the citizens to protect them while they can escape.
That’s why this game is called Last Stand in Everquake City – because it’s just that. The Stormcast Eternals will sell their lives dearly to protect the citizens of the city… but can they last long enough to get them all out? Such heroism!
WarCom: Oh this is epic stuff! I hear you managed to get White Dwarf editor Lyle to play too?
Nick: Yes we did; Lyle controlled his own Stormcast Eternal army, the Kraken Blades. Ben borrowed Nyle’s Orruks from the campaign too, so these are the very same models seen in White Dwarf duking it out on Battle Report, on the very terrain they used too.
WarCom: Oh, this is cool. Tell us about the battleplan?
Nick: We actually had the Design Studio write a special battleplan for us, which perfectly represented the exact setup we wanted. You can actually download it below, so if you fancy playing it yourself you can. So this has been a real labour of love between loads of people and we hope you enjoy it!
WarCom: This sounds exactly what narrative gaming is all about.
Nick: For sure. Narrative games, where the story you play out, cinematic moments and the in-world consequences of them are the focus are such fun to play. You find yourself making decisions you might never make in a matched play game because “it’s the right thing to do” or “my general would do that”. It’s such a great way to play Warhammer; I heartily recommend it to anyone.
WarCom: So, any hints on how this one went?!
Nick: Ha! Nope! You’re gonna have to catch it on Warhammer+ this week to see how it went. But I’ll say this much; heroism is guaranteed.
Thanks, Nick! Battle Report is out on Warhammer+ today, and if you haven’t already, make sure you pick up a copy of the latest White Dwarf magazine to catch up on what’s been going on in the campaign!
