The Ghyranite tail of the Twin-Tailed Crusade has fallen foul of starved Gorger Mawpacks while wending its way through the Scabrous Sprawl. With the entire convoy imperilled by rampaging Ogors, the beleaguered Dawnbringers are rescued by the very woods themselves, led by Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth.
But who is Kurnoth? Alarielle the Everqueen is the goddess of life magic, but her long-dormant consort Kurnoth is more of a mystery. The God of the Hunt was slain by the armies of Nurgle in the Age of Chaos, and only the most wild and fervent Sylvaneth worship him now – a fact which often sits ill with Alarielle’s more devoted children.
Legend tells that Belthanos was born from a tree struck by a bolt of jade fire on the day Kurnoth fell, and to this day he protects the guttering flame of his dormant god. In Dawnbringers: Book III – The Long Hunt, this mighty hunter has emerged to aid the Cities of Sigmar.
The Carnelian Greatspite accompanies him on his raids, a creature of pure Ghyranite magic, sprouting fresh life wherever it treads. During the hero phase, on a 3+ its Nature Aetheric can apply a Mysterious Terrain effect of your choosing to a terrain feature within 6”. This infusion of life magic also turns it into overgrown terrain.
Kurnoth worshippers prefer a more direct approach to warfare than their secretive kin, ferociously charging into battle rather than slipping through the hidden paths. When Belthanos sounds the hunt from his Kurnothi War-horn, its rousing melody grants allies the ability to charge even if they’ve run that turn.
As the envoy of Kurnoth, Belthanos leads The Evergreen Hunt, an Army of Renown constructed from Arch-Revenants, Kurnoth Hunters, Revenant Seekers, and Spiterider Lancers.
The whole army is captive to the Harmonies of the Hunt that resonate with the primordial melodies within them. At the onset of each battle, they pick an enemy unit to be their quarry, and by chasing down and killing their prey they add new chords to the growing harmony.
As the battle progresses, the song turns from Discordant to Mellifluous, granting a range of boons to the whole army while they are in close pursuit of their prey.
A command trait, artefact of power, grand strategy, and three battle tactics are the arrows in the quiver of rules rounding out this Army of Renown, which you can kickstart with the Blades of Betlhanos box available to pre-order tomorrow with Dawnbringers: Book III – The Long Hunt.
This packed book also contains rules for three other Armies of Renown, including the Draconith Skywing. In the meantime, you can download the warscoll for Belthanos by clicking the button below.
