The planet Necromunda holds many secrets. Few are nice, but few are quite so grim as the tale of Helmawr’s Graveyard. The Imperial House controls all space traffic off and on the planet through the Eye of Selene, the great orbital space station.
Any ships that attempt to land without his permission are blown from the skies, falling into the great scrapheap known as the Navis Mortis – a huge chasm way out in the badlands. Far from the presence of the Enforcers, certain gangs have made a living plundering the wreckage of these ships. There’s great wealth to be won, and sometimes there are boons darker still.
You’ll find out more in The Coveted Cache, the latest free Apocrypha Necromunda download. It contains a new scenario entitled Seize the Cache, an underhive battle between gangs who want to secure some very powerful – and most particular – loot.
What’s in the cache? Whispering Weapons, powerful artefacts with killing intent. Equipping one triggers an intense desire to keep hold of it, no matter the cost; scavengers of Helmawr’s Graveyard have even reported the weapons’ dark iron soldering to their palms or digging hooked barbs into their flesh.
If a fighter wielding a Whispering Weapon takes an enemy Out of Action with a Fight (Basic) action, they may immediately make an additional Fight (Basic) action. When a fighter equips a Whispering Weapon, it cannot be unequipped or upgraded, cannot be affected by the Disarm trait, and the fighter equipped with the Whispering Weapon cannot be voluntarily removed from the Gang. But they also come with a cost – every time the wielder is taken Out of Action themselves, they lose another part of themselves to the darkness…
Here’s Leila with more: “In this instalment of the Apocrypha Necromunda, we take a dive into the Navis Mortis, also known as Helmawr’s Graveyard. Though it is a place of ruin, piled high with ships blasted to pieces during the Two-Faced War, it is also a place of riches – at least for those with the strength to bore deep into the ancient vessels and ‘reclaim’ the smuggled goods.
Every ash quake that ravages Necromunda is seen as an opportunity by the hardy folk of Helmawr’s Graveyard. Whilst hab-domes are swallowed by the earth and ash scours skin from muscle, fresh ships are vomited up through the planet’s layers of sediment to be cracked open anew. Nearby, the trading settlement of Pilgrim’s Grave is flooded with strange and otherworldly goods that the Clan Houses would pay dearly to claim. Yet amongst so many ancient treasures, there are always those that would have been best left forgotten…”
